CHAPTER 231-2

Still open.” I said and he looked surprised.

“You’re not considering closing?” He asked.

“No.” I said.

“Paige.” He said.

“I know.” I said and I smiled.

“Lawson Customs has survived worse.” I added as he shook his head.

“You’re impossible.” He said.

“You married me.” I said.

“That was apparently my first mistake.” He said and I laughed.

“There’s still time to regret it.” I said and he smiled.

That stopped me.

It was the first genuine smile I had seen from him in days. Not the tired smile he used to reassure everyone. Not the brief expression he gave the children.

A real smile and I walked closer.

“There you are.” I said and he looked at me.

“What?” He asked.

“You finally look like yourself again.” I said and his expression softened.

“I feel like myself again.” He said as I touched his hand.

“Good.” I said and he squeezed my fingers.

“We’re getting through this.” He said.

“We are.” I said and then Mia called from the office.

“Paige?” She called and I looked over.

“What?” I asked.

“We have customers waiting.” She said and I laughed.

“Of course we do.” I said.

CHAPTER 231 2

Lawson Customs remained busy throughout the day. The workshop was operating at full capacity, and Ben and Aiden barely stopped moving.

Several damaged motorcycles from the recent attacks were still being repaired, while ordinary

customer work continued around them.

Mia handled appointments and parts orders, and the waiting list continued growing.

People were still bringing food. People were still asking whether we needed anything.

The garage had become more than a business. It had become a place where people gathered.

Some came for repairs. Some came for information. Some came because they knew someone

would answer the door.

That mattered to me.

The war had tried to turn everything into fear, but the community kept answering with ordinary life.

By late afternoon, Ethan arrived at Lawson Customs carrying another stack of documents.

“I need Charlotte.” He said and I looked up.

“She’s in the office.” I said.

“Can you get her?” He asked so I called toward the office.

“Charlotte?” I called and she appeared a moment later.

“What is it?” She asked and Ethan placed a document on the counter.

“I need you to look at this company director.” Ethan said.

Charlotte glanced at the page and her expression changed immediately and I noticed.

“Do you know him?” Ethan asked but she didn’t answer as she stared at the document longer.

“Charlotte?” I asked.

“I know this name.” She said and Ethan leaned closer.

“From where?” Ethan asked as Charlotte swallowed.

“He was involved with our mother.” She said and I frowned.

“Victoria?” I asked.

“No.” She said as she shook her head.

“Vanessa.” She corrected.

CHAPTER 231 2

The name immediately caught my attention.

Vanessa Reed.

Charlotte’s former friend. The woman whose name had already appeared in the Blackstone

investigation and Ethan pointed toward the document.

“This man was a director of one of the companies connected to the factory.” Ethan said and

Charlotte’s fingers tightened around the paper.

“He wasn’t just a director.” She said.

“What was he?” Ethan asked and she looked at me.

“He was one of the people Vanessa used to meet with.” Charlotte said.

“When?” I asked.

“Years ago.” She said.

“How many years?” I asked and Charlotte looked back at the page.

“Before I ever met Victor.” She said.

That made the room quiet and Ethan pulled another document from the stack.

“His name appears on six different records.” Ethan said and Charlotte’s face had gone pale.
