Paige’s POV-

The recovered documents had taken over the clubhouse.

They covered the long table in the main room, and Ethan had spent most of the morning sorting them into piles while Derek sat nearby with his shoulder still bandaged.

Jace stood at the end of the table, studying the pages without saying much.

I had seen him tired before. I had seen him angry. I had seen him covered in blood after a fight. But, this was different.

He looked like a man trying to understand a puzzle that had been sitting in front of us for months without us realizing how large it was.

“What have you found?” I asked and Ethan looked up.

“A lot.” Ethan said.

“That sounds promising.” I said.

“It’s also complicated.” He said as Jace glanced at him.

“Start with the money.” Jace said and Ethan nodded.

“The factory records connect several companies that appeared unrelated on paper, but their financial activity overlaps.” Ethan said.

“Ridgeway?” Jace asked.

“Yes.” Ethan said.

“Blackstone?” Jace asked.

“Yes.” Ethan said.

“Northline?” Jace asked.

“Yes.”Ethan said and I looked toward Jace.

“The same names again.” I said.

“Exactly.” Ethan said as he spread several pages across the table.

“These companies moved money between accounts, changed directors, shifted ownership, and

closed whenever someone started asking questions.” Ethan explained.

“How many companies?” I asked.

“So far, I have identified nineteen.” He said and I stared at him.

“Nineteen?” I asked.

“Possibly more.” He said as Derek leaned forward.

“So Victor wasn’t building this network.” Derek said and Ethan shook his head.

“He inherited parts of it, found it, or was allowed access to it.” Ethan said.

“That would explain why he knew about the old businesses.” I said and Ethan nodded.

“And it explains why he was so desperate to find Uncle Will’s journals.” Ethan said as Jace looked

at the documents.

“Because Will had been following the money.” Jace said.

“Yes.” Ethan said,

I felt a chill move through me. Uncle Will had spent years investigating something nobody else understood, and now we were beginning to see pieces of the picture.

The strange symbol. The companies. The harbour. The factory. Charles Black.

None of them seemed separate anymore.

My phone buzzed and I looked down to see that it was Mia.

You need to see this.

So I left the clubhouse and headed towards the garage and I walked toward the office.

“What is it?” I asked as she turned the computer toward me.

News alerts filled the screen. Several companies had suddenly closed overnight. Others had frozen accounts. One had been placed under investigation. Another had lost its registered address

and I looked at Mia.

“What happened?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” She said as she scrolled.

“Whatever happened, it happened quickly.” She added and Jace walked into the office behind me. I didn’t even knew that he followed me to the garage.

“What are you looking at?” He asked as I pointed toward the screen.

“Several companies connected to the ledgers have collapsed overnight.” I said and Ethan
