Perhaps we should discuss numbers.” The agent said and I turned toward him.

“With respect gentlemen, you’ve been dragged into something that had nothing to do with you.”I

said.

They nodded politely but stayed where they were as Charles stepped closer.

“You are being stubborn.” He said.

“I’m being consistent.” I said.

“You’ll regret turning this opportunity down.” He said.

“I’ve regretted plenty of things. This isn’t one of them.” I said glancing around the garage.

The deep rumble of a motorbike echoed into the parking lot before anyone spoke again.

Several Iron Vipers rolled through the gates and Jace was at the front with Derek, Cole and Hunter following behind him.

They parked quietly and removed their helmets and Jace took one look at my expression before

walking over.

“Everything alright?” Jace asked and I smiled faintly.

“It depends who you ask.” I said and Charles looked Jace up and down.

“So you’re the biker.” Charles said like he had already forgotten him or something.

“I’m Jace.” He said nodding calmly.

“I didn’t ask your name.” Charles said.

“Fair enough.” Jace said and Charles straightened his shoulders.

“I’d appreciate it if you stayed away from my daughter.” Charles said.

The workshop fell completely silent. Hunter slowly looked toward Derek who subtly shook his

head as if silently reminding him not to interfere but Jace never raised his voice.

“I think that’s Paige’s decision.” Jace said and Charles frowned.

“I beg your pardon?” Charles asked.

“She’s an adult. She decides who belongs in her life.” Jace said staying calm and steady.

“Is it really who you want representing you?” Charles asked and I answered before Jace had the

chance.

“don’t need anyone to represent me.” I said and he sighed dramatically.

“You’ve changed.” Charles said and I smiled.

“I finally noticed I didn’t have to live by your rules.” I said.

“You are throwing your future away.” He said,

I looked around the workshop and at Ben, who had become like a younger brother before looking at Mia who had helped turn the office into something I could actually keep organized.

I then looked at a customer chatting while they waited and at the Iron Vipers who had supported Lawson Customs from the beginning without ever asking for anything in return. Before I looked

back at my father.

“This is my future.” I said and Charles followed my gaze before speaking again.

“You honestly believe these people are your family?” Charles asked.

“They’ve treated me better than my actual family ever did.” I said without hesitation.

“You’ll come to your senses.” Charles said.

“I already have.” I said.

For several long seconds neither of us spoke and finally Charles snapped his folder shut.

“Fine. You’ve made your choice.” He said as his voice carried enough frustration that even the agents flinched.

“I have.” I said.

“I hope you don’t expect another offer.” He said.

“I wasn’t expecting this one.” I said and he turned sharply toward the real estate agents.

“We’re leaving.” Charles snapped.

The three men looked relieved as they headed back toward the cars, Charles stopped beside Jace one last time.

“This won’t end the way you think.” Charles said and Jace met his gaze without taking a step back. “The only thing that matters if what Paige wants.” Jace said.

Charles climbed into his sedan without another word and the two vehicles pulled out of the parking lot, leaving an uneasy silence behind.

Hunter waited until they disappeared around the corner before exhaled loudly.

“was about five seconds away from saying something.” Hunter said and Cole smiled.

“We all know.” Cole said.

“You okay?” Ben asked looking at me.

“I will be.” I said and Jace gently rested a hand around my waist.

“You handled that well.” Jace said.
