New restoration.” I said.

She opened it and started reading and her eyebrows rose slightly.

“How long?” Mia asked.

“Several months.” I said.

“That’ll fill the schedule nicely.” Mia said.

“That’s what I was thinking.” I said and she continued scanning the contract.

“Very nicely.” Mia said and Oliver cleared his throat.

“I should mention that I’ve already discussed payment terms with my attorney.” Oliver said.

He quoted the figure and I stared at him.

For a moment I honestly thought I’d heard him incorrectly.

“That’s the total?” I asked.

“That’s the initial contract.” She said and I looked back at the paperwork.

The amount was more than I had expected from an entire year of ordinary repair work.

“This is generous.” I said.

“It’s competitive.” He said.

“I wouldn’t call it that.” I said and he smiled.

“Your reputation is worth paying for.” He said and the words settled strangely in my chest.

For years I had listened to people tell me Lawson Customs was too small, that I was wasting my

time and that I should sell while the property was valuable.

Now someone had driven across the county because he believed my work was worth this much. So I looked toward Uncle Will’s old workbench.

For a moment I imagined him standing there with his sleeves rolled up, watching me inspect the

motorcycle and I smiled.

“I’ll take the contract.” I said and Oliver extended his hand.

“Then we have a deal.” He said and I shook it firmly.

“We do.” I said.

After he left, Mia immediately pulled up the scheduling software.

“Right. You’re going to hate me.” Mia said as she looked at me.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because I’m about to rearrange your entire life.” She said and I laughed.

“Go ahead.” I said.

She started moving appointments, assigning routine repairs to different days and creating a

dedicated restoration schedule.

“We’ll need additional storage space.” She said.

“I’ll clear the back corner.” I said.

“Ben will need help.” She said.

“I can handle that.” I said.

“You’ll need parts suppliers.” She said.

“I’ll make the calls.” I said and Mia looked at me over the screen.

“And you’ll need sleep.” She said.

“I’ll consider it.” I said making her sighed.

“That wasn’t the answer I wanted.” She said and Ben walked past carrying a box of tools.

“I vote for no sleep.” Ben said.

“Nobody asked you.” Mia said.

“I know.” Ben said and the three of us laughed.

For the rest of the afternoon, Lawson Customs buzzed with energy. The rare motorcycle was

moved carefully into the workshop and Ben began photographing every component before

anything was removed.

Mia created a parts inventory and I inspected the engine and documented every issue.

The work ahead was enormous, but for the first time in weeks, my excitement outweighed my

worry.

The Black Reapers had damaged my windows. They had damaged customer motorcycles. They had tried to make me afraid. Instead, I had opened my doors again.

I had more work than ever. I had people standing beside me and now I had a contract that could

secure Lawson Customs for months.

When Jace stopped by later that evening I couldn’t resist showing him the motorcycle. He whistled

softly as he walked around it.

“That’s impressive.” He said.

“Oliver Hayes.” I said.

“The collector?” He asked.

“You’ve heard of him?” I asked.

“Most people in the motorcycle world have.” He said and I smiled.

“He hired me.” I said as Jace looked at me with unmistakable pride.

“I knew you could do it.” He said.

“I haven’t actually restored it yet.” I said.

“You will. Because you’re Paige.” He said leaning closer and kissed my forehead and I smiled.

“That’s either incredibly sweet or a lot of pressure.” I said.

“Probably both.” He said and I laughed.

Later that evening, I locked the garage and headed upstairs. I had barely reached the apartment

when my phone buzzed.

Mia had sent a message.

Congratulations again.

I smiled and typed back before setting the phone aside.

Across town, Charlotte sat alone in her car, staring at the same message someone had just

forwarded to her.
