ROZALIYA’S POV

All the colour drained from my face, a pang piercing through my chest until all I could feel was a sharp pain spreading through my entire body.
“A… hit… fee?”
“You heard me the first time,” Agent Hernandez said dryly, moving to sit opposite me.
I searched his face, hoping to find even the slightest sign that he was lying.
Instead, I was met with an even worse fate.
I couldn’t read a single thing on his face. It was like staring at a blank wall, only for it to stare right back at you.
I swallowed the hard lump in my throat, forcing a neutral expression onto my face. “That’s a pity, then. Whoever this Rozaliya Valerio is… she’s really in some deep trouble.”
“Cut the shit,” Agent Davis snapped, his nostrils flaring. “We know it’s you, and we have all the proof…”
“Then why do you still need me to talk? Lock me behind bars, then.”
“Be careful what you wish for,” Hernandez chimed in, a threatening edge creeping into his voice. “I’m notorious for making wishes come true.”
A shiver ran down my spine, the look in his eyes throwing me off balance.
“I don’t know who either of you are,” I whispered, looking between them. “But I’m certain this is not how FBI agents are trained to speak to…”
“Criminals?” Hernandez interrupted. “Is that the word you’re looking for?”
“I’m not a criminal.”
Davis scoffed. “You…”
“Excuse us, Agent Davis,” Hernandez muttered, his eyes fixed on me.
My chest heaved as my nerves spiked, but I forced myself to hold his gaze.
Why did he want Davis out?
I might not see eye to eye with Davis, but I’d rather be left alone with him than be alone with Hernandez.
Davis cleared his throat. “But…”
“I said, excuse us.”
I shook my head. “I want him to stay.”
Hernandez raised a brow, a dark smirk tugging at his lips. “Say that again?”
“I said… I want him to…”
“I don’t give a fuck what you want,” he snapped, his eyes hardening. “So shut the fuck up.”

My eyes widened, a sharp retort sitting at the tip of my tongue, but I forced myself to hold it in.
wasn’t scared of him.

Not even a little.
But I was smart enough to choose my battles carefully so I wouldn’t end up in even more trouble than I already was.
Whatever his rank was, he clearly held more power than all the other people who had interrogated me.
I was reminded of that as Davis turned around and walked out of the room without uttering another word
We sat in silence, the kind that was troubling and almost maddening, until Hernandez finally broke it.
“Prove it.”
I furrowed my brows. “Excuse me?”
He stroked his chin leisurely. “You said you’re not a criminal,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “Prove it.”
He was up to something.
I couldn’t just see it… I could feel it.
“Tell me, officer…”
“Special Agent.”
I frowned. “What?”
“Special Agent. Not officer,” he corrected. “Don’t make that mistake again.”
I watched him, really watched him this time.
From his dark hair to his dark brown eyes, and then his sharp, intimidating features.
He had an American accent. Not the typical one… just… his own.
From that alone, I would have guessed he was American, but he didn’t look it.
In his dark, perfectly tailored suit, he looked like an attractive, professional business man, at least until he opened his mouth and revealed just how rude and full of himself he was.
I wasn’t impressed.
“Tell me, Special Agent,” I hummed, moving my wrists even though they were still secured in the handcuffs. “How do you want me to ‘prove’ my innocence to you?”
He looked irritated by the sickly sweet voice I used, a muscle ticking in his jaw.
“What’s your name?”
“Bianca Davinci.”
“That’s the biggest joke of the century,” he said, his voice bored at the edges. “Did you think of the name after hitting your head on the floor?”
“No. The only thing that came to mind after hitting my head on the floor was your ridiculous face.”

“Good to know you were thinking about me even before meeting me,” he retorted, swiping his thumb across his upper lip. “Oh, and I’d do well to warn you.” His eyes narrowed. “Watch that damn mouth.”
I glared at him.
He remained unfazed. “We’ll try that again,” he muttered, glancing at his wristwatch. “What’s your name?”
I sighed, leaning back against the uncomfortable chair. “B.i.a.n.c.a. D.a.v.i.n.c.i.”
“You do realize that the person’s identity you even stole…” He smirked, not a trace of amusement in his cold cyesake?
No, I didn’t.
This was news to me.
I cursed inwardly, cussing out Artem’s cousin, Gio, in my head.
Artem had introduced me to him weeks ago and told me he specialized in creating fake passports, so I’d asked him to make one for me, just as a joke.
I’d never thought I’d actually use it, so I hadn’t bothered to verify the details.
To think I’d paid over twenty thousand dollars for it made me even more pissed off.
“No,” I finally answered, holding Hernandez’s unnerving gaze. “Because it belongs to me, and I’m a real person…”
He rose to his feet, shaking his head. “I’ve wasted enough precious time on you. So I’ll cut to the chase.”
My blood ran cold in my veins, uncertainty swirling through my head, but I forced a smile onto my face. “I’m listening.”
“With everything gathered against you and your connection to the Valerio family, I have enough evidence to present to the federal prosecutors and get you locked up,” he said coldly. “And if you manage to escape, which will never happen, you’ll still get killed because there are criminals who would be awarded ten million dollars for killing you.” Hernandez shook his head. “So, in simple terms, your life is worthless anyway.”
His words were like a bucket of ice water being thrown over me, cold, biting, and utterly disrespectful.
But my anger didn’t blind me to the truth.
“You…” I took a deep breath, attempting to steady my nerves. “…You can’t just tell me there’s a bounty on my head and expect me to believe you.” My voice shook. “Who put it out?”
Hernandez didn’t respond immediately.
