Not A Golddigger

ARABELLA’S POV

Caspian Leonti?

Wasn’t that the name of Rozaliya’s fiancé?

I frowned, irritation already stirring within me. I’d prefer not to judge someone without even meeting them first, bat man’s name was always associated with something negative.

I was sick of it.

“How did you catch on to that, boss?” Igor asked, yanking Jacques by the collar and pushing him to the floor as the other guards rushed to hold him down.

Alvise slid his hands into his pockets. “I knew something was off when he didn’t show up,” he said, glancing at his wristwatch. “And then I got a call from Leonti.” He looked at me, a muscle ticking in his jaw. “And he mentioned my wife.”

Goosebumps rose on my skin, and I dropped my gaze to Jacques, watching as he struggled against the two guards holding him down.

So… Leonti sent him after me? Why?

My chest tightened, and I rubbed my hands over my elbows.

“Not to mention, his French accent is as fake as that Rolex on his wrist,” Alvise added dryly. “Take him away.”

I raised a brow, my eyes locking with Jacques!. “You were showing off with a fake Rolex?”

His shoulders sagged, and he opened his mouth to speak, like he wanted to give an explanation, but the guards dragged him away before he could get a word out.

I turned to Alvise, biting my lip.

He was already watching me.

“So… I was almost abducted?” I asked, stepping in front of him.

His eyes darkened, his upper lip twitching. “Not possible.”

“But what if you weren’t here? He could have injected me with something and…”

Alvise slid his hand over my waist, pulling me flush against him, his blue eyes flashing with irritation. “I said, not possible.”

And I believed him.

Completely.

It was twisted, psychotic even, that I felt extremely safe with the most dangerous man in the Bratva.

It was like an egg seeking refuge in the hands of a vulture, knowing full well that it could be crushed and eaten in the blink of an eye.

“You…” I placed my hands on his chest, craning my head back to look directly into his eyes until all I could see were those blue depths. “…should be thankful. In fact, you owe me a gift. Do you know why?”

Alvise stroked his thumb over my hipbone. “Enlighten me.”

I hummed. “Jacques flaunted his Rolex… Well, fake Rolex, desperately for me to see.”

First of all, that’s certainly not his real name,” Alvise stated, tilting his head to the side. “And secondly, what point are you trying to make, Arabella?”

“That your wife isn’t a gold digger,” I joked, sighing dramatically. “I could have been swayed by the promise of a beer life, but I stayed.” I placed my hand on my chest. “For you.”

Dark amusement glinted in Alvise’s eyes, and the corner of his lips lifted. “Sure,” he muttered dryly. “You deserve ift Definitely. What do you want?”

“I thought you’d never ask,” I breathed. “I want a Rolex. Preferably two, one on each wrist.”

I heard Igor clear his throat and flicked my eyes past Alvise to see him standing there with wide eyes.

I rolled my eyes.

It’s not like I’d asked for anything out of the ordinary, right? Well, I had… but he could afford it.

“Done.”

I turned my attention back to Alvise, a smile playing on my lips. “Done?”

“Yes.” Then, without looking back, he muttered, “Igor?”

“Yes, Pakhan?”

“What the fuck are you still doing here?”

“I…” Igor trailed off. “Nothing… Pakhan.”

Alvise didn’t like that answer.

He stepped away from me, folded his hands at his back, and turned around. “Do I pay you to do nothing?”

“Definitely not, sir,” Igor responded, squaring his shoulders before walking away.

I picked up Alvise’s debit card, my phone, and our key card from the couch before looking around, surprised to see that everyone had gone back to minding their own business.

As if reading my thoughts, Alvise turned back to me.

“Why didn’t they call hotel security on you?” I asked him, furrowing my brows.

He walked past me, pulling his phone out of his pocket. “I’m an investor.”

I gasped, trailing behind him as he headed towards the elevator. “Really? I had no idea.”

Alvise pressed the button for the top floor, and when the doors finally slid open, we waited for the people inside to exit before stepping in.

“I see,” he finally responded, pressing the button for our floor.

“But I assume the hotel security wouldn’t know you’re an investor,” I mused, leaning against the wall. “So why didn’t they even try?”

He glanced at me. “Why are you so invested in this topic?”

I shrugged, tapping my foot against the floor. “I’m just intrigued… and surprised.”
