His Pov- Terrible Trip

ARVISE’S POV

I’d lived a dangerous life.

I was living a dangerous life.

And I’d always have to live a dangerous life.

It was a fact, one cemented not just by my background and circumstances, but also by my obligations and/interes

The danger had never bothered me, and I thought it never would until the green-eyed woman walked into mylife Now I was forced to analyze just how risky my job really was.

I wasn’t worried about myself. I could handle it.

In fact, there were times when I deliberately chased the danger.

However, having several enemies also automatically meant they were going to try to get to her.

My wife.

It was quite unfortunate that they weren’t properly informed. I was very intentional about keeping her alive, no matter what it took.

And that was precisely why all the attackers who had shot at us were currently lying dead on the floor.

“Are you okay?”

I tucked my gun into my waistband, dropping my gaze to find Arabella staring at me with wide, petrified eyes.

Shit.

I crouched down, scanning her body with my eyes. “I should be asking you that.”

She shook her head, reaching for my suit jacket and pulling on it until we were at eye level.

“Why did you stand up? You could have been shot…”

“It wouldn’t be the first time,” I said absentmindedly, still carefully searching her body for even the slightest scratch.

Because if I spotted just one, I was going to have Caspian Leonti’s head before the sun set.

“You scared me,” she said, looking around before rising to her feet. “Why were we attacked?”

We.

I didn’t like the sound of that.

I swiped my thumb across my lips and stood up, my fingers twitching at my sides. “I was the one they were after, Arabella. Not you.”

She raised a brow, folding her arms. “They shot at us…”

“Me.”

She shook her head as though I were the unreasonable one, then, almost hesitantly, finally flicked her gaze towards the

bodies scattered across the floor.

ho sent them?”

A muscle twitched in my jaw as I pulled out my phone. “You don’t have to get involved, Arabella.”

She bit her lip, her eyes flashing with annoyance, but for some reason, she didn’t complain as I’d expected her to.

I looked down at her excuse for a ‘swim dress’ again and balled my hands into fists. Shrugging off my suit jacket, ped it over her shoulders.

“Put it on.”

“But it’s not revealing.”

“I said, put the fucking jacket on, Arabella,” I snapped, moving past her.

I could feel her sharp glare digging holes into my back as I stalked towards Igor.

He was standing with the rest of the useless guards I’d brought along, their heads bowed because, obviously, they knew they’d fucked up.

“How the fuck did none of you notice any of the attackers?”

Igor looked up. “I apologize, Pakhan. We did the usual security checks when we got back, but we didn’t notice any of this…”

“Your job is to notice,” I cut him off, rolling up my shirt sleeves. “And I expect each of you to do your damn jobs.”

One of the fools dared to speak, his voice sounding as pathetic as I expected. “We assumed the hotel security would be tight…”

I pulled my gun from my waistband, rolling it between my fingers. “Are you telling me that you slacked off on your job because you expected the hotel security to do it for you?”

Silence.

I was met with complete silence.

“When I ask a question, I expect an answer.”

“No… that’s not what I mean, sir, but…”

My finger hovered over the trigger, ready to pull it, when a pair of dainty fingers wrapped around my arm.

I tensed, immediately tucking the gun back into my waistband as I turned to look at the only person I knew who would dare interrupt me in the middle of something so serious.

“What are you doing?” I asked, my jaw hardening.

“Standing next to you,” she said calmly, her eyes giving away her intentions.

“Clean up the mess and come meet me outside,” I ordered, glancing at the men. “Ten minutes.”

I didn’t wait for a response before grabbing Arabella’s wrist and pulling her outside the hotel.

It was eerily quiet, just how I liked it. The few guests who had been in the lobby had run off when the attack began, most fleeing up the stairs while others had rushed into the elevators to hide in their rooms.

Most of them were probably calling the police now.

Too bad they wouldn’t get here until I was done.

abella snatched her wrist away from me, wincing. “You’re hurting me.

I folded my hands behind my back, my eyes locking with hers.

“Yeah? Then imagine what I could have done while holding a gun,” I hissed, barely containing my anger. “Why would you walk up to me at that moment?”

Her eyes softened, and she took a step closer. “I knew you wouldn’t hurt me.”

Of course, I fucking wouldn’t.

I cocked my head to the side. “That doesn’t excuse your recklessness. And I know why you did that.”

She tipped her chin up, putting her hand on her hip. “You were about to kill him.”

“I was.”

She gasped. “Aren’t you even going to deny it?”

“No,” I said, glancing at my phone screen.

Just as I’d predicted, there was already a message from Andrei.

“We’re leaving now,” I announced, slipping the phone into my pocket and looking up at her. “Are you ready?”

She averted her eyes from mine. “Ready when you are.”

She was upset.
