Chapter 144: Helpless

Dante’s pov

I looked at Jade who seemed to be deep in thought.

“There is a way we can save Dove,” she said and I looked at her intrigued.

“Anything, what do we need to do?” I asked her and she sighed.

“Kill Sasha,” she answered and I nodded at this.

The world requires balance, to save a life we must take another and I am okay with that.

Anyway, the only reason she is even still alive is because she is Dove’s mother.

But she has shown that she doesn’t care about her own daughter so why should I care about her?

I looked at Jade who seemed to be thinking but just looked at me and nodded.

She is hiding something, but what is she hiding?

“Do you

feel bad that your sister is going to die?” I asked her and she nodded.

“She might be terrible, but she is still my sister and we grew up together,” she answered.

I looked at her and I could tell that she was still hiding something too.

“What is wrong? You are hiding something from me,” I said and she sighed.

“It doesn’t matter, what is important right now is saving Dove’s life. That should be our priority and nothing else,” she answered and then went back inside.

I followed her and found Tom playing with his younger sister. He was just playing around as Dove

laid in bed.

I looked at her, I would do anything so she could have a normal childhood.

I would do anything just so my daughter can live a full life.

Maybe one day she will hate me for the decision I am going to make.

But it’s better that she hates me because it would mean that she is still alive.

Jade checked on Dove one last time and then left the room.

She is hiding something from me.

The last time she was like this was 5 years ago and she walked out the next day.

What is it that she isn’t telling me?

Claim

I stayed with Dove for some time and there was nothing that the doctors could do for her so they

sent her home.

“How long do you think she has?” I asked Mrs Bennet who sighed as she looked at her

grandaughter.

“If I was to estimate I would say about 2 months,” she said and then paused to look at Dove who

was now sleeping soundly.

“But, chances are that her organs will start failing anytime soon,” she said and I looked at her

confused.

“What do you mean her organs will start failing?” I asked her.

“She is being erased from existence. Which means that her body will start shutting down, one

organ at a time until she is dead,” she explained and I nodded.

“I hope you will understand, to save my daughter I will need to kill yours,” I explained and she

looked at me confused.

“And who told you that?” she asked me which confused me even more.

“Jade, she said that for Dove to live, Sasha needs to die,” I answered and she looked at me.

I watched how the look on her face changed and she nodded at this.

“Dove is also my granddaughter, I lost my daughter a long time ago. Do what you must to save your daughter,” Mrs Bennett said and then sighed.

I looked at her, she had the same look that Jade had today.

“You are hiding something from me aren’t you?” I asked her and she just shrugged.

“I am not the one hiding it from you. You should talk to Jade about this,” she answered and then

sighed.

“But she has a valid reason for hiding it,” she added and I frowned at this.

What could she be hiding from me and why?

The solution is very simple.

I kill Sasha and then Dove gets to live a full life and then we kill the Madman then everything is

solved.

I paused when I realized something, Sasha was part of the plan to kill the madman.

Apparently there is connection between him and Sasha that we were going to use.

But now it seems that we can’t use it anymore if I kill Sasha.

The only way out of this, is if we do everything that Jade was planning and then get rid of the

madman.

The plan can still work right?

And again, the solution seems so simple that it feels like there is something that I am overlooking.

I left the room and looked around for Jade who was sitting there looking outside.

She had papers in front of her and seemed like she was trying to figure something out.

“The plan can still work, I know that it can,” I said to her.

She turned around and looked at me.

“We proceed as planned, use Sasha and then use the spell to kill the madman. Once the spell is done and the madman is dead, I kill Sasha,” I said and she shook her head.

“That won’t work,” she answered and I looked at her confused.

“What do you mean it won’t work?” I asked her.

I really don’t understand magic but this seems really straight forward in my eyes.

We kill two birds with one stone, well technically that is how it should be.

“The dark magic inside my sister is the key,” she said and then sighed when she realized I didn’t

understand.

“The dark magic inside my sister is what ties her to Dove and the madman.

If we use my sister to kill the madman, then the dark magic inside her will be gone since it is the link we will be using,” she said and I nodded in understanding.

“Once the dark magic is gone from my sister, she will have no ties with Dove,” she explained and I

shook my head.

“But she is Dove’s mother,” I pointed out and she nodded.

“And you are Dove’s father, but killing you doesn’t mean she will live. We only have one option, we

use the dark magic to kill the madman or to save Dove,” she explained.

I stood there and processed everything she just said to me.

Does this mean that I am helpless once again?

There is nothing I can do for my wife and also my daughter?

“With no way to kill the madman, there is only one option now,” Jade added with a sigh.

“No way in hell, you are not going anywhere,” I said firmly and she looked at me with a sad smile.

“I will leave Tom with you. Just let me have this one,” she said touching her belly.

I spent years working myself to the bone so I could protect my family and now it’s like I am back to

square one.

Is this what life has always had in store for me?

That I have to choose between my wife and daughter?

How is of this fair?
