Chapter 8: Jade the protector

Jade’s pov

I walked around until my feet stopped. I looked around at my surroundings, and I was at the spot where I almost had my first kiss with Tommy.

I sat down and found myself just sobbing.

How long will I let my mother keep hurting me? Why does she treat me like I am not her child? Why does she treat me like I am her enemy and not her daughter?

“You are sitting on my spot.” A voice said, and I looked up to find Tommy looking at me.

“I am sorry.” I said and was about to get up, but he gestured that I sit down. He sat next to me and gave me his boy next door grin.

“I am guessing you were told.” He said, and I looked at him confused.

“About marrying Alpha Dante.” He explained, and I nodded.

“How did you know?” I asked him.

“Invitation cards to your wedding.” He explained, and I frowned.

They had already sent out wedding cards before waiting for my response.

“I said no,” I informed him, and he smiled at this.

“You did good, do what makes you happy.” He said, and I just started sobbing.

“My mother, she said that she is going to turn me into a rogue. I know her. She doesn’t make idle threats.” I said, and he sighed.

“It seems like you will never be free from her. How can a mother be an obstacle in her own child’s life?” He asked, shaking his head.

“You don’t hate me?” I asked him, and he shook his head.

“Why would I hate you?” He asked me, and I just shrugged.

“It will ruin the alliance between the pack and Coven.” I answered.

“Wasn’t that alliance established a few months ago?” He asked me. “Before that, we were alive and well. Actually, we were thriving.”

“I surely hope that everyone in the Coven will see it that way.” I said, and he smiled, looking at

“Believe me, everyone sees it that way. Come on, Jade, you are Jade, the protector.” He said and patted my head. “You protected us more times than we can count. Everyone in this Coven loves you to death. When we heard you left, everyone celebrated. Because you were free, you were far away from all your troubles.”

I just started crying even more, hearing what he had to say.

“I am sorry that your freedom was short-lived.” He said and then sighed.

“If I don’t do this, then I will no longer be Jade the protector.” I said after a few minutes.

“No, you would still be Jade the protector. Only this time, Jade will be protecting Jade.” He said with a smile.

Jade will be protecting Jade.

“It’s time you prioritized yourself and your happiness. I wish there was a way you could escape your mother’s clutches. A way she wouldn’t use this hold she has on you.” He said, then kissed my forehead.

“I am sorry I wasn’t your first kiss. It would have been a great honor. Good luck, Jade.” He said and then walked away.

I started sobbing at his words as they all started playing in my head.

A way I could escape my mother’s clutches and be free from her forever.

Actually, there might be a way I can escape her and also save the alliance.

Even if I died, she wouldn’t care, and she has made it clear. She doesn’t care about me, and

it’s time I stopped caring about her.

About all of them, I did cut ties with them and also limited contact. But they still had a hold on me and a thread that connects us. Now I really need to cut them off completely.

Jade will be protecting Jade from now on.

I wiped away my tears and went back to the office.

“I will do it,” I said as I opened the doors. “But I have my terms and conditions.”

All eyes were on me.

“State your terms,” Samantha said with a smile.

I watched as my mother’s face fell and she frowned.

“What game are you playing, Jade?” She asked me, and I smiled.

“The one you started.” I answered and watched as she looked around the room.

“Fine, just draw it up, and we will sign.” She said, and I shook my head.

“I said terms and conditions, plural,” I said.

“What else could you possibly want?” She asked me, and I smiled.

“To be removed from the Hale family ancestry.” I said and heard more gasps.

“What? You can’t do that!” Dad said, getting up, and I scoffed.

“Now you can talk?” I retorted, and he frowned.

“If you do that, then we will lose every connection we have with you.” He said, and I nodded.

“That is kind of the point,” I pointed out.

“But sister, it would mean you cut ties with me and everyone here.” Jay said, pointing at our family.

“I gave this family 8 years of my life. And I will be saving your asses yet again. This connection has been nothing but a burden.” I said.

“We won’t know if you are alive or dead!” Dad said, and I smiled.

“That’s the point.” I pointed out.

“Another condition, this marriage will only last until I give birth to a child. It won’t matter what gender, but the moment I have one, then this so-called marriage will be over.” I said and looked at Alpha Dante.

“Fine, then I also have my terms as well.” He said, and I frowned at this.

“I will marry you, legally,” He added, and I looked at him confused.

“Yes, prenuptial agreements take months.” Sasha added.

“Who said anything about prenuptial agreement?” Dante asked.

Everyone looked at him, confused, including me.

“There will be no prenup between me and Jade. What is mine will be hers.” He explained.

“What? You can’t do this to me. You aren’t supposed to be marrying her legally!” Sasha said.

“But you said she will be my second wife. How will a small ceremony make her my wife?” He

asked her.

“I once got Addison and Tommy married in that very backyard when we were 8.” I said.

I gasped, looking at her.

“Are Tommy and Addison husband and wife?” I asked her.

“Be honest sister, you just wanted me to be your husband’s little mistress?” I added.

“Those are my terms.” Alpha Dante said firmly.

“I agree,” I said and then looked at a pale Sasha.
