Chapter 85: Duty
Jade’s pov
“We were supposed to go home yesterday,” I reminded Dante who frowned.

“Let’s stay here forever. If we go home then you will go to work and I will have to work as well,” he
said and I chuckled.
“That’s the point, it’s Monday today and I am missing work already,” I pointed out.
“Fine, but before that can I at least get one round?” he asked me and I chuckled.
“Plus I am a little tired, I think I will need a few along the way to replenish my energy,” he added.
“You can have anything you want. But for now, we need to get home,” I said and he nodded.
“Just this one round,” he said and I rolled my eyes at this.
It’s never just one round but why not?
“OH gosh, I forgot something,” I said as we were lying down recovering from the so-called ‘one
round’.
“Your father and siblings are coming today,” I reminded Dante who got up.
“And we didn’t tell my mother,” he pointed out and I smiled.
“We f****d up,” I said and he nodded.
We got up and got everything and went on the road.
As we were getting closer to the pack border Dante frowned.
“He is already here,” he said and I sighed at this.
“I told you that we should have called them and let them know,” I said and he just shrugged.
“This is not the type of thing you tell someone through the phone,” he retorted and I guess he is
right.
We got to his pack and we got to the pack mansion and it was silent.
We walked in and all eyes in the room turned to us.
“Brother,” Grace and Jordan said at the same time as they ran towards us.
Dante picked up Grace and then patted Jordan on the head.
“Hello sister-in-law,” Jordan said and I smiled as he hugged me too.

“It seems like you have met before, Brother what the hell is going on here? What are they doing
here?” Nick asked Dante.
“Yes, I would also like to know if this is why you called me back here. For him?” Tia asked pointing
at their father.
“I can explain that, it was probably not my place. But I invited them here,” I said and all eyes turned
to me.
“Yes, it wasn’t your place at all,” Alec retorted.
“You will watch your tone when you speak to my wife,” Dante warned.
Mr Odell walked up to me and then smiled.
“I am guessing you were so busy that you forgot to tell them about the invitation?” he asked.
I looked down and he started laughing and then hugged me as well.
“It is good to see you again Jade,” he said and then looked at Dante.
I watched as the two men just looked at each other and were hesitant to hug each other.
“Hand me Grace,” I said to Dante who nodded and handed me Grace.
As if the two rascals knew my plan they both pushed father and son towards each other.
I smiled as they hugged each other and the room went silent.
“If you want to be a part of this facade then fine. But leave me out of it,” Alec said and then walked
out.
“I will go and talk to him,” Mrs Odell said getting up but I shook my head.
“No, please let me talk to him,” I said and then followed Alec.
“What the f**k do you want?” he asked me and I sat down next to him.
“I just want to talk,” I said and then sighed as I looked at him.
“That’s a pretty cool watch you have there. But it seems so old, why don’t you throw it away?” |
asked him.
“Get out of my business, did you forget what you said? You are nothing but my brother’s f**k buddy,
”
‘he yelled and I nodded.
“I share a hate and love relationship with my mother too,” I said and he looked at me confused and annoyed.

“I left home because of her. She pushed me to a spot where I couldn’t stay home anymore. But she was also the one person who sent me presence on my birthday,” I said and then smiled.
“Every year for 6 years when I was away. She didn’t miss even one occasion. I always got gifts from her and it always left me conflicted,” I said and he rolled his eyes.
“Your relationship with your mother hasn’t improved yet. Isn’t it worse than it was before?” he
asked me and I nodded.
“Now I am no longer conflicted. She threatened me and put me in a tight spot yet again. I have cut
ties with her,” I confirmed what he just said.
“But can you say that about your dad?” I asked him and he frowned.
“That watch, he is the one that bought it for you?” I asked him.
“Dante told me about how he would send you gifts for every occasion and that too with
personalized messages. You opened one didn’t you?” I asked him.
“So what? He hurt my mother and siblings. He walked out and ran like a coward,” he answered and
I nodded.
“As a coward who once ran away. I can tell you that sometimes running is probably the hardest thing you can do,” I said and he didn’t answer.
He looked down and he suddenly started sobbing.
“Everyone of them has memories of him but I don’t. I was four years old when he left,” he said and I put my hand on his back.
“Then this is the time to make memories with him,” I advised and he looked at me.
“But what about Mom? How will she feel about me trying to connect with someone who hurt her?”
he asked me.
“Has your mother ever said anything bad about your Dad? In all these years when your father reached out. Did your mother stop you from talking with him?” I asked him and he shook his head.
“That could be because she wants what is best for you. I am sure that she wouldn’t mind at all,” I said and he sighed.
“What if he doesn’t like me?” he asked me and I just shrugged.
“Then that is his loss, you are the coolest kid I know. Don’t tell Nick this, but you are so much cooler than him,” I said and he smiled at this.
“No need to hide it. It’s common knowledge,” he said with a smile.

He wiped away his tears and then we walked inside.
“I am Alec,” he said as he walked to his father who smiled.
“I know that kiddo,” he said and hugged his son.
“I will have the chefs make a feast for dinner. There is a lot to celebrate,” Mrs Odell said.
“Rose,” Mr Odell said and Mrs Odell turned around at the mention of her name.
“You look good,” he said and Rose smiled and nodded.
I excused myself because I already meddled enough in this whole thing.

“Amazing, you managed to bring that man back here,” Sasha said as she was standing at the door.
“Yes, it was just luck that we met them on our way to the cabin,” I said and continued unpacking.
“And your trip to the cabin, why didn’t you come back yesterday?” she asked me and I looked at
her.
“You shouldn’t ask questions you don’t want answers to,” I said and she scoffed at this.
“I asked because I want to know the answer. Are you honestly trying to take your sister’s mate?”
she asked me and I sighed.
“No, but I am fulfilling my duty as his wife. And I was fulfilling it the entire weekend and that too multiple times,” I answered.
I watched how her eyes darkened as she looked at me.
I always envied those green eyes of her, compared to my brown eyes hers were beautiful.
But now looking at her, looking at the person in front of me I don’t feel envy.
All I feel is disgust that she is even related to me.
“Well, that is good then. The sooner you get pregnant the sooner you will leave,” she said and I
smiled.
“About that, I am not going anywhere anymore,” I said and she looked at me confused.
“What are you saying?” she asked and I just shrugged.
can’t
“I am your sister and yet you use me and treat me like I am nothing. As my older sister, you even protect me and care for me. Am I supposed to believe that you can do the same for my
child?” I asked her.
“Are you saying that you think I will mistreat your child?” she asked me and I nodded.

“Yes, I don’t trust you anymore. I won’t trust you with my child and with my husband,” I answered.
“Aren’t you ashamed? Standing there and claiming my mate as your husband?” she asked me and I
smiled.
“He is my husband, I am legally married to the man,” I pointed out.
“How could you? How could you betray your own sister like this? You are the one who can’t be
trusted,” she retorted.
“I am so sorry sister, but is my back hurting your knife?” I asked her.
What will she do?
What can she do really?
