Chapter 155 A Disappointing Son
Theodore said in a cold, authoritative tone, “I am here–who dares speak out of turn?”
His single sentence silenced Margaret at once.
It was true. With Theodore standing beside her, no one would dare utter a word of gossip.
Still, walking off hand in hand right in front of Norma felt far too awkward.
The last time we met, she hoped I would still become part of her family as Theodore’s bride.
Now everything has changed in the blink of an eye, and I don’t even want to think about how messy this looks.

Margaret finally realized how improper it was for them to walk holding hands. After going a short distance, she gently pulled her hand free and walked quietly at his side.
Theodore parted his lips as if to speak, yet he said nothing in the end.
Cyan hurried over to catch up with them. “Prince Theodore, Queen Norma left a message for you. She saw you were in a great hurry to leave, and she said her birthday celebration will be held soon–she wishes for you to bring Ms. Campbell to the palace and attend the feast together.” He gave Margaret a meaningful look.
Theodore nodded faintly. “Tell her I will be there.”
Cyan gave a slight nod, then stepped back quietly.
Margaret’s heart skipped uneasily.
Just as I suspected, Queen Norma is already plotting something underhanded. It’s all my fault for being careless.
Why did I even let myself hold hands with Prince Theodore like that?
Now everyone’s bound to get the wrong idea.
Margaret plucked up her courage and asked softly, “Does Prince Theodore always take other people’s hands out of habit?”
Theodore glanced over at her, then looked away. “What silly thoughts are you having?”
Margaret quickly waved her hands in denial, wearing an awkward smile. “Nothing at all…”
The whole situation felt terribly embarrassing.
There were surely countless pairs of eyes watching them from all around.
Just then, a royal guard stepped forward to block their path. “Prince Theodore, Mr. Joseph requests your presence.”
Theodore halted his steps. “Lead the way.”

He followed the guard without hesitation. Seeing Margaret standing there frozen in place, he said, “Stay close behind me.”
Margaret murmured an “Okay” and fell into step right behind him.
Theodore said in a calm tone, “Noelle is still young, and as Norma’s daughter, she has been thoroughly spoiled. Do not take her petty words to heart.”
Margaret shook her head. “I see her as nothing more than a spoiled child. I won’t let her bother me at all.”
Theodore nodded. “Good. The palace is full of scheming people–just keep close to me, and you will be fine.”
Margaret replied, “I will.”
Meanwhile, Norma had already entered Spencer’s royal bedchamber.
The two were talking when someone rushed abruptly into the rooma
Christopher said anxiously, “Father, I heard you collapsed earlier. Are you unharmed?”
At the sight of him, Spencer closed his eyes with a look of weariness.
Norma chided him, “How many times must I tell you to mind your manners? No matter how urgent the news, you cannot rush in so recklessly. You’re setting a terrible example for Stella.”
Christopher bowed respectfully. “I know I’ve acted improperly, Mother. I only grew worried for Father’s health.”
Norma said, “We know you mean well with your concern. Your Father is perfectly fine now.”
As Norma spoke, she reached out and gently rubbed Spencer’s temples for him.
Christopher glanced around the room curiously. “I heard Uncle Theodore came to visit as well. Where is he?”
Norma frowned, “Why do you seek out Theodore all of a sudden?”
Christopher’s tone turned angry and aggrieved, “Father, Mother, I have something I must ask him. You have no idea–Uncle Theodore struck Stella out of nowhere, and he even attacked Jasper, too. He gave no reason at all for his actions. It’s utterly unreasonable, nothing more than abusing his noble status to do as he pleases.”
Norma frowned deeper, “Do not trouble your father with such trivial matters. Leave at once.”
Christopher kept a serious expression and refused to step away.
Spencer finally opened his eyes and fixed him with a stern gaze, “Have you come here merely to complain?”
Christopher answered, “I have. Uncle Theodore hurt Stella for no cause at all. Does he not know Stella is mine? How could he dare treat her so poorly…”

“The wedding has not yet taken place–how can you claim she already belongs to you?” Spencer’s voice turned cold and sharp, filled with disappointment. “Stella claimed to share your affections and should have been betrothed to you long ago. Yet she vanished without a word the moment you were gravely injured. If Margaret had not taken your betrothal back then and preserved your reputation, you would have become the laughingstock of all Breston. And now you dare come here to plead for Stella?”
Faced with Spencer’s obvious anger, Christopher fell speechless and flustered. “Father, Stella is not like that…”
“Be silent,” Spencer cut him off sharply. “Your Mother has already told you plainly–she is far from worthy of being your Crown Princess. The only honor she deserves is to be taken as one of your Royal Consorts. Is that not a warning enough for you? Now you dare come complain about Theodore just for her sake. You truly are a disappointing son.”
Spencer’s anger flared. “The moment I collapsed, your Uncle Theodore rushed here at once to check on me. Meanwhile, you only come to accuse him. Do you realize it was he who brought Margaret to heal me? Without her help, my head would still be throbbing in pain right now.”

Christopher dropped to one knee in haste, filled with remorse. “Father, please calm your anger. I know I have made a grave mistake.”
