Chapter 167 Someone Important?
Julie laughed heartily. “I’ll stop teasing you, I promise! Don’t tickle me!”
The two girls joked and laughed together, setting aside all their earlier awkwardness completely.
Finished
Margaret shook her head with a soft look of amusement, then rose to her feet and left the feast hall.
The next morning came quickly.
Margaret went to the Ducal Palace as usual to give Theodore his acupuncture treatment. Still, her mind wandered constantly throughout the whole session.
Theodore let out a quiet gasp at the sharp prick. “Go a little easier.”
Margaret snapped back to her senses. She finished the acupuncture gently, and as she began removing the needles, Theodore spoke out of the blue. “What were you thinking about just now?”
Margaret quickly gathered up all the acupuncture needles. “Nothing at all…”
Theodore’s tone turned sharp. “Were you doing it on purpose then?”
Margaret waved her hands in a fluster. “No, not at all. I just got distracted thinking about all the tasks I still have to finish.”
I couldn’t very well admit I’d been dwelling on Julie’s silly remarks.
Everyone kept saying Theodore treated me differently, yet I’ve never felt that way one bit.
He’s only stood up for me twice, and after all, I’ve saved his life first.
It is nothing more than simple mutual courtesy.
Lost in her thoughts, she walked out of the private chamber.
She was about to leave the palace directly when Cyan stepped forward and blocked her path again.
He asked politely, “Do you have more busy errands to run today, Ms. Campbell?”
Margaret nodded. “I still have leftover things to finish from yesterday.”
Cyan offered an awkward smile. “Surely you’re nearly done with everything by now. Would you stay and share a meal before you go?”
Margaret fell silent for a moment.
Why does he keep asking me to stay for meals again?
Julie’s earlier words suddenly crossed her mind, and Margaret shook her head firmly.
That’s ridiculous. There’s no way he has feelings for me.

He’s probably just inviting me on Prince Theodore’s behalf…
And that’s even more impossible. Prince Theodore would never ask to dine with me anyway.
Finished
With that thought, Margaret stepped back a good pace. “I can’t. I already promised to meet someone else.”
Cyan stared in surprise. “Is this person you’re meeting very important?”
Important enough to take priority over dining with Prince Theodore?
Margaret nodded. “Yes, they’re quite important.”
I still need to sort out proper work and lodging for Lisa and Julie. The feast hall is plenty big enough to fit them
anyway.
Cyan stood his ground and refused to step aside. “To be honest, I’ve already prepared a full meal reserved just for you.”
Margaret’s expression turned awkward.
Oh, no, could he really have genuine feelings for me?
She smiled, “No, really, thank you. You go eat with Prince Theodore instead. I have to leave now.”
With that, she turned and hurried off in a rush.
Cyan stood there, thoroughly confused.
What on earth is Ms. Campbell talking about?
I’m only a servant. I could never dine alongside Prince Theodore.
Does she even realize how odd her words sound?
Just then, Theodore finished dressing and walked out of the chamber.
Cyan stepped forward nervously. “Prince Théodore, Ms. Campbell has a prior engagement for a meal today, with someone important, so she had to leave in a hurry. She should be free with no busy plans
tomorrow.”
Theodore narrowed his eyes faintly. “Someone important?”
Cyan asked tentatively, “Shall I send someone to follow her and find out who it is?”
Theodore refused coldly. “There’s no need.”
He turned and walked straight toward his study.
Cyan wiped the sweat from his brow. He’d served Theodore for years, and he could see clearly just how specially Theodore regarded Margaret.
Yet Margaret was utterly oblivious to it all.

She kept turning down his subtle invitations time and again. Cyan sighed.
Could she be waiting for Prince Theodore to invite her in person?
Every lady of rank in Breston tries everything to catch his eye.
What on earth is she thinking?
Finished
Margaret left the Ducal Palace in a hurry and climbed straight into her carriage.
The second she stepped inside, she sensed something was off.
There was another person hiding in the carriage.
She locked eyes with the dark, shadowy figure and moved to get off at once.
A sharp sword was suddenly pressed right against her neck.
The man spoke in a low, restrained tone. “I apologize for my sudden intrusion. I only came to beg you to heal my wounds.”
Margaret fell speechless.
His sword is practically pressed to my neck, and he calls this a beg?
“I do not take kindly to being threatened,” she said.
The man sheathed his sword at once, his tone turning pleading. “I mean you no harm whatsoever. Please do not make a sound, Ms. Campbell.”
They were right at the main gate of the Ducal Palace.
If Margaret called out even once, a swarm of guards would rush over and surround the carriage instantly.
Margaret turned to glare at him coldly, “If you fear being discovered, how dare you sneak into my carriage right here?”
As they spoke, the carriage slowly began to move forward.
Margaret frowned sharply, “Stop the carriage at once.”
The carriage kept rolling without slowing down in the slightest.
The man explained calmly, “The coachman has accepted my silver. He will only obey my orders now.”
He pulled a heavy pouch of silver coins from his chest and tossed it into Margaret’s lap. “Will you agree to heal my injuries and spare my life?”
The pouch felt heavy in her hands. Margaret opened it slightly and saw it was filled with silver coins.
She glanced up at the man. “Heal your wounds? I can’t see a single injury on you anywhere.”
