Chapter 166 They’re Your True Feelings

Margaret glanced from Lisa to Julie. “If you stay at the feast hall, the steward can teach you how to run the business. In a few years, you might even be able to help me manage it yourselves. If you’d rather go to the medicine shop, you can learn from the young helpers there how to identify and sell medicine. They don’t treat patients on–site–you’d only need to memorize all the herbal remedies. I’ll arrange your lodging and meals fully, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.”
After hearing her words, Lisa and Julie’s eyes welled up with warm tears.
Lisa said emotionally, “Ms. Campbell, meeting you is the greatest blessing of our entire lives.”
Julie nodded firmly. “It truly is. We’ll do anything you ask of us. We’d even work as serving girls here with no pay at all. As long as we have food and a roof over our heads, we’d gladly serve you for the rest of our lives.”
Margaret waved off their earnest words gently. “Don’t talk like that. I can easily afford to pay your regular wages, and you’ll get every bit you deserve as long as you work hard for me. Now eat up quickly. Once you’re full, head upstairs to rest. I’ll come back tomorrow, and you can stay here for the time being.”
The two girls nodded and began eating ravenously.
Julie said between bites, “Ms. Campbell, are you and Prince Theodore…”
Lisa cut her off at once, “It’s not our place to gossip about Prince Theodore.”
Julie swallowed her food and argued, “There’s no one else around. Ms. Campbell is so kind–it’s fine just chatting a little.”
She leaned in curiously. “Ms. Campbell, does Prince Theodore have feelings for you?”
Margaret froze in surprise at the sudden question. “Don’t talk nonsense. He and I are only business partners.”
Julie whispered quietly, “Business partners don’t keep holding your hand all the time…
“Back in our village, he protected you so fiercely. We even thought you two were brother and sister at first. Once we learned the truth, we half thought you were husband and wife.”
Margaret nearly choked on her food. “You’re letting your imagination run wild. Nothing like that could ever happen between us.”
Julie blinked innocently. “You’re kind and beautiful, and Prince Theodore is brave and noble. You two are perfect for each other–why couldn’t it be true?
“Don’t you have any feelings for Prince Theodore at all, Ms. Campbell?”
These two girls have grown far too comfortable around me.
They’ll say anything that pops into their heads, completely fearless.
Margaret looked utterly helpless. “I’ve never even thought about that sort of thing. Why do you both jump

to such far–off conclusions?”
Julie smiled knowingly, “Onlookers see the clearest. We’ve only met Prince Theodore a few times, yet he’s never spared us a single glance. The second you appear, his eyes go straight to you. That alone says he cares for you. You two match so well–I truly wish you’d end up together.”
Margaret grew flustered, a rare sight for her. “Stop talking such silly nonsense and finish your meal.”
Lisa gave Julie a light elbow nudge. “Ms. Campbell is only being nice to you, and you grow bold enough to overstep. You’re being so rude.”
Julie stuck out her tongue playfully. “You’re the one who rambles nonstop about how handsome Cyan is, and how extraordinary he is…”
Lisa quickly clamped a hand over Julie’s mouth before she could finish her sentence.
Margaret stared at the two of them blankly.
What on earth are they chattering about?
Young girls really love gossiping about these silly things when they’re together.
Julie pulled Lisa’s hand away and turned to Margaret. “Are you close with Cyan, Ms. Campbell?”
Margaret replied casually, “Not especially close, really. Speaking of him is strange enough–he even asked me to stay for a meal today.”
Julie covered her mouth in shock right away. “He invited you to dine with him? Could it be he’s taken a liking to you?”
Margaret’s lips twitched in amusement. “What ideas are you cooking up in that head of yours?”
Julie lowered her voice. “If he does like you, would Prince Theodore send him away out of jealousy?”
Margaret rolled her eyes at her, lost for words.
Julie grinned cheerfully. “You’re so easy to talk to, Ms. Campbell. I love chatting with you.”
Margaret let out a soft sigh. “I’ll stop chatting and head back now. Think carefully about your choice tonight, and tell me your decision tomorrow.”
Julie nodded happily. “Thank you for being so good to us, Ms. Campbell. I’ll go learn at the medicine shop starting tomorrow, and work hard to help sell medicine for you.”
Margaret raised an eyebrow. “That sounds good. What about you, Lisa?”
The two turned to look at Lisa, only to find her hanging her head, lost in her own thoughts.
Julie whispered to Margaret, “I think Lisa’s feeling a little jealous.”
