Chapter 181 No One Will Disturb Us Here

Margaret gave in helplessly. “Very well, arguing is tiring. Take ten silver marks each for you and Lisa.”
Julie still tried to decline.
Margaret simply pulled out twenty silver marks and pressed them into her hand. “Refuse again, and I’ll be upset.”
Julie quickly fell silent. “Thank you, Ms. Campbell.”
“Go buy yourselves new clothes,” Margaret said gently. “Don’t make me say it again.”
Tears welled up in Julie’s eyes with gratitude. “I will, Ms. Campbell. Thank you so much.”
The medicine shop was right next door, so Margaret soon arrived and met the gentleman Julie had spoken of.
Just as she’d guessed, it was the masked man from the carriage that day–Keith.
“Thank you for coming, Ms. Campbell,” Keith said. “I’ve been waiting quite a while.”
He still wore all black, though this time his face was covered by a mask, leaving only his striking pair of eyes exposed as they fixed steadily on Margaret.
That was the second floor of the Healing Peace Hall. Healing Peace Hall was laid out much like Life Preserve Pavilion. The first floor was for selling medicine, and the second held several private treatment chambers.
The only difference was that Healing Peace Hall was smaller, with just a handful of rooms on the second floor.
Keith sat by the window of one chamber, overlooking the crowded street below,
Margaret told Julie to step outside, then closed the door herself. “Take your clothes off.”
The casual, straightforward line froze Keith on the spot instantly.
He stared at Margaret’s back in utter shock, certain he’d misheard her.
When Margaret turned to look at him, he hastily shifted his gaze out the window.
Staring at the crowds passing by on the street, he said awkwardly, “It isn’t proper for a lone man and woman to be alone together like this.”
Margaret walked to a side shelf and picked up a set of acupuncture needles.
She’d had medical supplies prepared in every chamber after taking over the apothecary, knowing she might treat patients here someday.
She’d even quietly taken medical gloves and other modern essentials out of her storage space.

Margaret didn’t spare Keith a single glance. “It’s just acupuncture, What silly thought are you having?”
Keith blinked in confusion.
Acupuncture…
“Must I really undress?” he asked.
Seeing him fidgeting shyly, Margaret sighed, “How else am I supposed to insert the needles through fabric?”
She added, “You’re a grown man. Are you embarrassed to be seen? I’m not the one feeling awkward here.”
Keith frowned faintly, “I’ve never…”
“Have you never had acupuncture treatment before?” she asked.
“I have,” Keith admitted reluctantly, “but always from male physicians.”
He hesitated, still fumbling with his belt. Margaret sighed again, “Whether the healer is male or female makes no difference. To us physicians, you aren’t even a man–only a body, no different from a corpse to be examined.”
She turned her back to him. “Fine. You look quite young, and shyness is only natural. I’ll face away if that makes you more comfortable.”
Keith’s lips twitched. He finally removed his outer robe. “You misunderstand me, Ms. Campbell. I’m only worried about your reputation if someone finds us alone together. I care nothing for my own good name.”
“Relax. No one will disturb us here,” Margaret said.
There is something oddly awkward about that line.
Margaret cleared her throat softly. “Even if someone did come, there’s nothing to fear. A healer treats all with compassion. Only those with dirty minds would think twisted thoughts.”
Once he’d undressed, Margaret told him to lie face down on the bed, then began her acupuncture treatment carefully.
The session ended quickly.
Margaret pulled out all the needles and turned her back once more.
She said, “It’s done. You may get dressed now. I’ll go downstairs to prepare a few herbal prescriptions for you. Take them faithfully for ten days first, then come back and see me, I’ll adjust your medicine according to your condition.”
Keith dressed silently.
As he pulled his clothes on, he quietly channeled his inner strength into his palm. A warm current flowed through his meridians, spreading like natural hot springs toward his hand.
His eyes widened in shock.
