Chapter 248 Theodore Is Truly Fortunate

Loretta spoke with obvious reluctance. “That’s Heavenly Snow Lily–we only have one stem left. Are you truly set on giving it away?”
At the sight of Loretta, Darren let out a heavy sigh. “Loretta, Ducal Palace is in desperate need of this herb.”
Loretta stepped forward and rested a hand gently on his shoulder. “You could simply say we have none. No one would ever know. This is our most precious treasure–not even ten thousand gold crowns could match the value of this single Heavenly Snow Lily.”
Darren’s expression turned grave and firm. “You wouldn’t understand this. I must save the person who needs it. She once saved my life, and I owe her this debt.”
After gathering all the prepared medicinal ingredients, Darren picked up his medicine chest and hurried straight to the Ducal Palace.
Soon, dawn had begun to tint the sky pale gray.
Megan rushed over to lead Darren to the guest chamber next to Theodore’s private quarters.
She said politely as they walked, “I truly appreciate you rushing over, Mr. Kingston. We have a fully stocked healing chamber here in the palace with nearly every common herb in supply. You need not make such frequent trips back and forth.”
Darren replied, “That may be true, but Heavenly Snow Lily exists only in my keeping. Several of these ingredients also need special preparation first. You may go rest now. I will stay here and tend to things.”
Megan asked anxiously, her voice laced with worry, “Do you need any help with your work?”
Darren shook his head gently. “No need. This guest chamber has everything I require. I will lie down and rest once I finish preparing the remedies. All that matters now is whether Prince Theodore and the others can find those two rare herbs.”
Megan’s eyes grew slightly red with sorrow upon hearing his words. “Mr. Kingston, please be honest with me. What will become of Ms. Campbell if those two herbs cannot be found?”
Darren wiped the sweat from his forehead with a weary gesture. “I dare not speak lightly of such matters. This poison is extremely deadly. If we fail to locate the required ingredients, we can only leave her fate to chance.”
He paused, then added in a quiet, thoughtful tone, “I cannot fathom how Ms. Campbell came to be stricken with such a lethal toxin. And there is something about her condition that…”
Megan cut him off quickly in a pleading tone, “Mr, Kingston, you must keep all of this confidential. It concerns Ms. Campbell’s reputation above all else,”
Darren nodded reassuringly. “Rest easy. Ms. Campbell saved my life, and I would never spread careless gossip about her. I only hope Prince Theodore catches the one who harmed her soon. It is heartbreaking to see someone as kind and wonderful as Ms. Campbell fall victim to such misfortune.”
The two continued talking back and forth, neither noticing a dark figure slip silently past the chamber
window.

Chapter 248 Theodore Is Truly Fortunate
After Theodore’s departure, Margaret lay all alone in the vast, quiet bedchamber.
No one took notice when a shadowy figure slipped into the room quietly through the back entrance.
Keith walked slowly toward the bedside and reached out to pull aside the soft white bed curtain.
Then he murmured as he stared down at Margaret, “How could you end up suffering such terrible torment?”

His face was hidden behind a mask, and his slender, pale fingers lightly pressed against Margaret’s neck to check her pulse. Her heartbeat was frighteningly weak.
Though he knew nothing of medical arts, he could tell plainly that Margaret’s condition was dire.
A strange, uneasy feeling settled over his chest for no clear reason.
Keith said, “You saved my life twice. Now it is my turn to repay the favor.”
He sat down slowly on the edge of the bed, his voice low and quiet. “I’ve still been waiting for you to wake up and give me more acupuncture treatments.”
Margaret’s eyelids fluttered faintly, as if she were on the verge of waking.
Yet her brows remained tightly furrowed, trapped in the grip of a nightmare.
Keith pressed his palm lightly to her forehead, his tone sharp with frustration. “You’re burning up with a fever, and no one is here to cool your temperature. It seems Theodore does not care for you nearly as much as he pretends to.”
“Don’t leave…” Margaret mumbled in obvious pain, her brows still knotted tight.
Keith spoke in a soft, familiar tone. “Do you still remember my voice, Ms. Campbell? It’s Keith. I’ve risked great danger just to come see you.”
Margaret shook her head weakly in her daze. “I can’t do this anymore… You already have someone you love. I can’t do this anymore.”
Keith reached out and stroked her forehead gently,
Her skin burned scorching hot to the touch.
Damn it. Theodore is gone, and none of the servants are bothering to take proper care of her.
He could not understand why he felt so overcome with anxiety. Perhaps traces of his own poison still lingered in his body, and he could not bear to see Margaret meet harm,
He had waited for her day after day recently at the medicine shop, hoping to find her and ask for a few more days of medicinal treatment.
When he finally set out for the Prime Minister’s Estate last night, he spotted her stumbling weakly toward Theodore.
He knew instantly that something terrible was wrong.
