Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 14

Whatever Danica was plotting no longer mattered. All Thaddeus cared about was finding Louisa, explaining everything to her, and asking her to wait for him a little longer.

She had always understood him. Surely, she wouldn't be mad and would forgive him once more.

"Thaddeus, you will never find Louisa," Danica suddenly said in a low voice.

He ignored her, assuming it was one of her tricks.

Seeing that he didn't react, Danica smiled faintly. "Didn't you ask earlier whether I saw the bride in that wedding car? I did.

"I saw her clearly. The bride was Louisa. She's married to Elijah, and that makes her Mrs. Holten now."

Thaddeus' tall frame swayed. His sharp, dark eyes locked onto Danica's face, and in his ears, that familiar voice echoed again.

"Congratulations."

No wonder it sounded familiar. No wonder Thaddeus had felt something was wrong the moment he heard it.

It really had been Louisa.

His heart dropped, but almost immediately, he shook his head.

No, that was impossible. Louisa would never leave him, and she wouldn't marry someone else. She didn't even know Elijah. How could they possibly be married?

Danica had to be lying. She said that on purpose just to stop him from going after Louisa. Even that voice he had heard earlier had to be his imagination.

It couldn't be real.

"Look at the news. Mr. Holten's wife looks just like Ms. Graham. She really did marry him," someone suddenly shouted from the crowd.

Thaddeus lifted his head in disbelief. The guest was holding up a phone, and more people gathered around to look.

He couldn't see the screen clearly from where he stood, but he could see their reactions. One after another, they nodded, whispering to each other, "It's her. I can't believe she married into the Holten family."

Gregory rushed over, phone in hand. "Take a look at this."

On the screen was the footage the reporters had just captured. Two brides were exchanging bouquets, and the image was so clear that Louisa's eyes beneath the veil were unmistakable.

No matter how hard he tried to deny it, the image hit him head-on. His vision went dark, and Gregory reached out to steady him. "Mr. Cromwell!"

The dizziness came in waves, and for a moment, it felt as if the entire world had collapsed.

Thaddeus gripped Gregory's arm tightly to keep himself from blacking out.

He had to find Louisa. He wouldn't let her marry someone else. She was his bride.

His voice was weak. "Where are they? Where's the wedding?"

Gregory had watched their relationship unfold over the years, and he couldn't bear to see Thaddeus like this. "I'll take you there."
