Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 40

"Thaddeus!"

Danica appeared, wearing a stylish veiled hat and an elegant Chanel suit with a perfectly composed smile on her face.

Even seeing Thaddeus gripping Louisa's wrist didn't cause her to flinch. Her expression remained bright, almost playful.

"I found your passport, so there's no need to trouble Ms. Graham... Oh, wait, I mean Mrs. Holten. She's not your assistant anymore, after all."

Danica turned her gaze toward Elijah. "Are you two heading off on your honeymoon? What a coincidence. Thaddeus and I were just about to leave for ours."

Thaddeus loosened his grip on Louisa.

His eyes were ice-cold as he stared at Danica, but she ignored his glare and slipped her arm through his, the picture of a devoted wife. "We're heading to Sadena. Where are you two off to?"

Thaddeus felt his heart skip a beat. Sadena was exactly where Elijah was taking Louisa. What was Danica playing at?

Their marriage was built on a foundation of mutual hatred. Danica loved him, but she resented him even more. Her hatred for Louisa was absolute.

Both Elijah and Danica had ulterior motives toward Louisa. There was no way Thaddeus would let Louisa go alone.

Elijah took Louisa's hand, his thumb brushing over the red marks Thaddeus had left on her skin. "Let's go. It's time to board."

He didn't bother acknowledging Danica or looking at Thaddeus again. He simply led Louisa away.

"See that, Thaddeus? Elijah is way more manly than you," Danica whispered, her words like a thorn.

Once they were on the plane, Elijah remained silent, but he didn't let go of Louisa's hand.

Danica was enjoying the show just as much. "Ms. Graham certainly knows how to handle men, doesn't she?"

She leaned closer to Thaddeus, her voice dripping with venom. "When do you think they started seeing each other?

"Do you think she was already his while she was still working for you? She might have been cheating on you for months without you knowing it."

She was twisting the knife, relishing the idea that Louisa had cheated on him.

In an instant, Thaddeus reached out and grabbed Danica's chin, his fingers digging into her skin. He stared at her with murderous eyes. "Mind your own business. And stay away from Louisa."

Danica's jaw hurt, but she didn't stop smiling. "Why would I bother her? She's Mrs. Holten now."

Her red lips curved into a wicked grin. "I'm not going to hurt her, Thaddeus. In fact, I think I'm going to be best friends with her."
