Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 45

Elijah simply ignored her. Louisa knew very well what that meant.

She finally walked toward him. She sat in front of him and said, "Elijah, you brought me here to see Letitia. I really want to see her right now. Can we please visit her?"

Louisa sounded incredibly sincere. Her eyes were starting to tear up as she spoke. They were suppressed, wronged tears that were full of longing.

"Do you really think a visit in the middle of the night is appropriate?" he asked lightly. From that alone, Louisa knew there was no way she would see Letitia that day.

However, when she asked him about it back home, he had immediately flown her to Sedona.

He had seemed completely different then. If he didn't have some sort of multiple personality disorder, then the only other possibility was that he was doing it on purpose.

Elijah was teasing her, like a cat who had just caught a mouse and wasn't going to kill it yet.

It was a horrible feeling. Louisa hadn't seen Letitia in seven years, but she was so near Letitia now, and yet she had no way of meeting her. It felt like her heart was on fire.

Her eyelids were faintly flushed. She had always had very fair skin, and no matter how she tried to tan, she never succeeded. Her skin was almost glowing under the lights, and the faint flush of red on her lids was extra obvious.

Her large, round eyes were misted over with pent-up emotions. When she looked at Elijah, her glassy gaze was even more pitiful than if she had been crying.

"Elijah, even if you want to get your revenge on me by toying with me, could you do it after I see Letitia?"

Elijah looked at her. He looked expressionless, but there was a certain ferocity in his gaze that only he knew was there. "Toying with you? How have I been toying with you? I'd like to hear about it for myself."

It was a normal question, but it sounded entirely different in his tone.

Louisa bit her lip. She could feel the anger in her heart coming to a boil.

The housekeeper came by at just the right time, holding a delicate tray with two cups on it. One was a refreshing cup of sweet tea, which she placed in front of Louisa, and the other was a simple cup of Earl Grey tea, which she put in front of Elijah.

The heady scent of the sweet tea completely overpowered the scent of the Earl Grey tea. Louisa's hands twitched against her knees. Elijah even knew about her habit of drinking sweet tea after eating lobster.

Louisa nodded. "Then, tell me when I'll get to see her. Tomorrow? The day after tomorrow? Or perhaps you've been toying with me the whole time. Maybe Letitia isn't here, and maybe you never planned on taking me to see her."

Her words were spiteful. It was obvious in her tone and in the glint in her eyes.

"That's… depends on my mood," Elijah said. He really knew how to make someone mad.

Louisa knew he was teasing her, but she didn't want to give up yet. "What type of mood will you be in to let me see her?"

"Louisa Graham," he suddenly called, using her full name.

Even though he had been calling her name pretty often throughout the past two days, his voice still made her heart skip a beat.

"Have you forgotten that this is our second night as newlyweds?"

His soft question raised the hairs on the back of Louisa's neck.
