Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 46

Was Elijah talking about sleeping with Louisa?

Marrying her and having sex with her was probably one of his revenge tactics.

The saying "Go with the flow" wasn't for naught. Since Louisa married Elijah, she was already mentally prepared for the next step.

Instead of sounding shy or uneasy, she simply replied, "No. Are you planning to commit to your husbandly duties tonight?"

Instead of him asking her for it, she was asking him for it.

For a long, long time, women were always viewed as the submissive or more conservative gender, and men were often portrayed as the ones who actually enjoyed sex.

However, Louisa wanted to disagree. After all, sex was between two people, and women could enjoy it too. If women could glean pleasure from it, why should they have to be viewed as the the reluctant ones?

Elijah had been fidgeting and picking at the couch, but he suddenly stilled completely. His dark eyes narrowed at Louisa's words. "Say that again."

Louisa didn't know if he hadn't heard her, or if he had just been taken aback by her words.

After all, it was probably the first time he had heard such a thing from a woman.

"Does that mean you're going to have problems tonight as well?" Louisa said, going all out.

Since she had already dug her own grave, she was going to lie in it and get comfortable while she did.

A light but loud scoff from Elijah rang through the air. "I seem to have left you unsatisfied, Mrs. Halton."

His words were as prickly as usual, but Louisa was already used to it. "I understand. After all, you were too busy yesterday. However, if you would like to rest again tonight, I wouldn't say no. I…"

She purposely paused before continuing, "...am not that desperate."

Louisa did her best to hide her panic. "Do you think you need it, Mr. Holten?"

"You'll know the answer once you try, Mrs. Holten," he said before hooking his other arm under her and picking her up bridal-style.

He strode forward. With every step he took on the soft, plush carpet, it felt like he was stepping directly on Louisa's heart.

She was trying to prove that he wouldn't actually touch her because he just wanted to get revenge on her. After all, if he really did love Letitia, he would probably not sleep with any woman but his one true love.

However, Louisa knew that after everything he had done, it didn't seem unlikely that he would stop at sex. After all, conquering her mind and body was just another form of torture.

Before Louisa could figure out what he would do to her that night, Elijah had already kicked the door open. She felt a weightless sensation as she was tossed into midair before landing on a huge king-sized bed.

She bounced slightly against the soft mattress when she landed.
