Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 60

As soon as Louisa finished speaking, the driver opened the car door. A cool gust of wind swept in, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine.

Elijah leaned back against his seat, his lips curling into an amused smile. His eyes seemed to be smiling, yet there was no warmth beneath the surface. "Mrs. Holten, are you trying to remind me of something again?"

Louisa froze for a second before the realization hit her. This was the third night of their marriage. He was twisting her words on purpose. This man was truly something.

Elijah got out of the car first. "I don't have the habit of parading my wife around at social events," he assured while holding out his hand for Louisa.

Then, he led her into the glass observation elevator. As they ascended, she was treated to a different view of Sadena's nightscape. It was beautiful and tranquil.

Louisa had seen photos of sky restaurants like this before, at least in pictures. During her years as an assistant, she had always done extensive research on social venues and networking hubs to cater to the preferences of Thaddeus' clients.

Although she had never been in this restaurant, places like this weren't foreign to her. One of Thaddeus' clients had been a die-hard fan of these upscale establishments—so much so that he insisted on dining at places like these even on minor holidays.

To keep the client happy, she had gone through countless guides and reviews.

Still, seeing it in person was far more breathtaking than any photograph. Even the carpet beneath her feet felt soft yet sturdy, as if she were stepping on clouds.

The restaurant had an open-concept layout, with no visible partitions between tables. However, diners never had to worry about being disturbed or having their conversations overheard. Every table was equipped with infrared soundproofing within a ten-foot radius.

On the surface, it looked as though the space was wide open, but in truth, everyone was shielded by invisible infrared walls.

Elijah led Louisa toward a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows. A six-foot-two man stood by the table, with his back to the room, as if lost in the panoramic view of the night.

Louisa suspected this was the person Elijah had wanted her to meet tonight. As they approached, the man remained as still as a statue, his hands tucked into his pockets in deep contemplation.

He finally turned around when Elijah coughed lightly. His bespoke suit radiated the superiority of someone used to being in power, while the gold-rimmed spectacles perched on his nose added an air of understated elegance and intellect. Although he hadn't spoken, Louisa felt calm and peaceful in his presence.
