Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 65

"This way, Mrs. Holten."

Sean opened the door for her, and Louisa stopped breathing. She couldn't even get her legs to move as she peered into the room.

A huge bed was situated in the middle of the room. From where Louisa was standing, she could only see the outline of a figure in bed.

However, she knew that was Letitia, the person she hadn't seen in seven years.

Being as close to the very thing she'd wanted with every fiber of her being for years, Louisa was terrified. She'd wanted nothing more than to find Letitia and meet with her, even if it was just for a moment.

Yet, with Letitia right in front of her, Louisa suddenly felt afraid. As for the source of her fear, Louisa herself couldn't say for sure.

Sean stood beside Louisa without rushing her, waiting patiently.

After about a minute, Louisa inhaled deeply. However, she didn't walk straight in. Instead, she turned to Sean and asked, "Are there any precautions I need to take?"

"It's alright. You can just think of her as simply being asleep and say what you'd like to her. You can also hold her hand," answered Sean kindly and patiently.

After thanking him, Louisa stepped in. Sean didn't follow her. Thoughtfully, he closed the door behind her.

Louisa's legs had never felt so heavy. Although she was only a few steps away from the bed, it felt as though she'd traversed seven years to walk over.

When she stood by Letitia's bedside and stared at the figure on the bed, Louisa felt as though she'd gone back in time to seven years ago, when Letitia had been fine.

She hadn't changed since then. Her skin was still as fair as it had been, her ebony hair thick and shiny. Although she was lying motionless in bed, she didn't look sick or hurt. It just seemed as though Letitia had fallen asleep. Time had left her untouched.
