Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 64

"This is my wife!" Elijah introduced Louisa to the doctor, Sean White.

Sean nodded at Louisa, who nodded back at him.

"Bring us in," ordered Elijah.

Hearing that, Sean raised a hand to guide them in. Elijah didn't immediately follow him inside. Instead, he reached a hand out toward Louisa.

She was confused by his impulsive behavior. However, as they had already arrived at their destination, she could only head in to see what was up. Either way, she was healthy and not in need of any medical care.

Louisa placed her hand in his. This was natural for them.

As Elijah brought her in, the dog began barking again. Louisa couldn't help but glance over at the huge brown dog. Although she didn't know what breed it was, it looked terrifying.

"Are you scared of dogs?" Elijah picked up on Louisa's nerves.

She wasn't really afraid of dogs in general. It was just that this one's size scared her. "It's the first time I've seen one that big."

"I'll show you a bigger one sometime."

Louisa nearly rolled her eyes at him. She was already afraid of this one. Was he trying to give her a heart attack by showing her an even bigger dog?

Also, if this were a hospital, dogs would've been forbidden as patients might be spooked. So, where were they?

Louisa stepped into the house, brows furrowed with suspicion. It looked like a normal home, with couches and regular furnishings. However, the interior design was classically styled, with a fusion of modern elements. It was similar to Elijah's own home.

This was probably another one of his residences, then. But why had they kept a doctor here?

Louisa's thoughts suddenly shot to Letitia. She whipped her head around to look at Elijah.

He asked Sean, "Is everything still the same?"

"It looks that way. However, our monitoring results have shown a positive trend. Last week, her heartbeat picked up thrice."

Meeting her eyes, Elijah said, "Go on."

Was Elijah letting her go? Alone?

Taken aback, Louisa didn't even move for a moment.

"Weren't you complaining about wanting to see her? Why aren't you making a move now that you're given the opportunity?"

Elijah let her go, tucking her hair, tousled by the wind, behind her ears.

"Bring Mrs. Holten over," ordered Elijah.

"This way, Mrs. Holten!"

Louisa got to her feet and followed Sean to a room. As she walked, she couldn't help but turn around. Elijah had pulled his phone out and was frowning. Louisa didn't know what he'd seen that could cause that expression.
