Seven Days to Goodbye (Irene and Stellan) novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

After leaving Denali, they went to Keystone Canyon.

Everywhere they went, they would ask passersby to take a photo of them together, but they always received some strange looks in return.

Stellan never cared about it; he only worried that Irene might feel upset.

Fortunately, they only cared about each other.

They wandered and paused along the way, traveling all over southern Alaska.

Finally, as the New Year approached, they arrived in Wasilla.

There was a chapel here, and it was said that the chapel housed the spirit of the god of reincarnation. Despite the wind and snow, he wanted to climb the mountain to pay his respects.

But he could not bear to let Irene suffer with him, so he asked her to stay at the inn at the foot of the mountain.

Irene held his hand, her expression a bit strange, but she still forced a smile.

“Will you come back?”

Stellan felt a sudden stab in his heart and kissed Irene’s forehead.

“Rene, what’s wrong with you today? Since you’re here, of course I’ll come back.”

Irene did not explain. She stood on tiptoe and kissed the corner of his mouth, Stellan’s reflection shining in her eyes.

She said, “Stellan, I will always wait for you here.”

A sudden panic rose in Stellan’s heart, as if something was slipping away from him.

He wanted to grasp something, but it was like trying to hold the wind; when he opened his palm, there was nothing.

Stellan watched Irene’s figure in the rearview mirror, growing smaller and smaller.

He suppressed his unease and drove up the mountain.

After he went up the mountain, his car got stuck in a snow pit.

He happened to meet a priest who was about to return to the mountain. The priest helped him push the car out of the pit, but the road down the mountain was blocked by snow, so he could only stay there temporarily and wait for the snow to melt before going down.

The courtyard was very small, with only a shaman and a young disciple, and they worshipped only one deity.

Stellan felt a bit worried and kept glancing at the sky.
