Chapter 29
Stellan felt shaken to his core, bowed deeply to the Shaman, and then turned to descend the mountain.
He returned to the inn at the foot of the mountain.
He arrived at the door of his room, took a deep breath, and pushed it open.
The room was clean and tidy, spotless.
By the window, Irene was sitting quietly, gazing outside.
“Rene…”
Stellan’s eyes grew hot, and all his unease settled back inside him.
“Have you been waiting long?”
He ignored everything that felt off, seeing only the figure before him.
Irene turned around and glared at him.
“You finally came back. Do you know how long I waited for you at the foot of the mountain?”
A ripple of pain stirred in Stellan’s chest. He stepped forward, pinched her cheek, and pressed his forehead to hers.
“I know. I’m sorry I was late.”
With his gentle coaxing, Irene could not stay angry after all.
She spoke to him with a hint of urgency, “I’ve already decided on our last stop. Let’s go to the dunes, shall we?”
Stellan smiled indulgently and agreed.
That night, they held each other, gazing at the sky outside the window.
Even though Stellan was holding his beloved, even though he was on the path of love, he still felt as if he were being swept into the deep sea by endless waves, unable to find a harbor.
“Rene, I love you.”
Irene, in his arms, fell into a deep sleep and did not answer him.
Stellan smiled faintly, wishing he could sink forever into this journey.
The next day, they went to their destination.
Strangely, there was no snow here; at a glance, it seemed as if they were in the midst of late autumn.
At this time, the locals were celebrating the New Year, and the atmosphere was especially lively.
