Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1185

Jerome didn't seem surprised to see her. He offered a slight smile and nodded.

"Come in. I had them ready for you."

Lizetta followed him inside. Following his gaze, she spotted a neatly folded stack of clothes resting on the sofa.

It was a complete set, from underwear to outerwear.

"They're brand new. I've never worn them."

Jerome had been present when Remington was brought in earlier, so he evidently anticipated that Lizetta would come asking for clothes.

Grateful for his thoughtfulness, she quickly replied,

"It wouldn't matter even if you had worn them. It's not like he's in any position to be picky."

She walked over and scooped up the stack of clothes.

As she turned to leave, Jerome said, "Have a seat. He probably won't be done showering anytime soon."

He had already poured her a glass of water. Not overthinking it, Lizetta set the clothes back down and took a seat.

He handed her the glass, and she truly was quite thirsty.

The intense make-out session with Remington had left her mouth inexplicably dry.

She downed several large gulps before pausing for breath, only to meet Jerome's knowing gaze. Her face immediately flushed red.

"He really has no restraint, even in our own home," Jerome remarked with mild disapproval.

The heat in Lizetta's cheeks deepened as she stammered in sheer embarrassment.

"No, it's not like that, we didn't do anything..."

She stopped mid-sentence, realizing her defense only made it sound more suspicious. Giving up, she pleaded playfully,

"Jerome, please."

Seeing how flustered she was, he decided to spare her and changed the subject.

Thinking of Conrad, Jerome's gaze softened as he looked at Lizetta.

"It's possible that Conrad was genuinely deceived by Eartha as well..."

Lizetta shook her head with a cynical smile, cutting him off.

"Jerome, you don't need to comfort me. Conrad might be my biological father, but that's where it ends. I never expected anything from him, so I have nothing to be disappointed or sad about."

She was far past the age of yearning for a father's love. Bouncing from the Hawthorne family to the Gardenia family, she had weathered entirely too much disappointment over the years.

She had long stopped expecting anything from relatives. Reconnecting with her grandparents was already a far greater blessing than she could have hoped for.

As for Conrad, she simply let fate take its course.

And it was blatantly obvious that the man wasn't worth a single ounce of her emotional energy.

If anything, she only felt a deep sense of disgust and resentment on behalf of her late mother.

Seeing that she truly didn't care, Jerome felt relieved, and his expression relaxed.
