Chapter 27 Why Are You Here
Thalia looked toward the entrance.
There stood Kiera in a floor–length, fiery red gown. The hem had an asymmetrical cut that showed off her long, slender legs. The waistline was deliberately loose, perfectly hiding her little baby bump. The deep V–neck accentuated her curves, framing her soft, full bust.
Thalia had only glanced at the dress that morning when she saw it on Instagram. Now that she saw it up close, she recognized it instantly.
It was a summer couture piece by the internationally renowned designer Milo Laroche, costing more than five million dollars. And the jewelry she wore was all limited–edition pieces by a top luxury designer house, each easily costing seven figures.
Right behind Kiera stood Alden, who was bending slightly to lift the draping hem of her dress. That gentle, attentive action showed just how much he loved her.
Thalia pretended she saw nothing. She simply slipped her arm through Tyren’s and smiled. “The auction is about to start. Let’s go.”
“No rush. Let’s get something to eat first,” Tyren said as he guided her to the buffet area.
The event was an auction and banquet in one, and they had flown in a renowned chef for the night. The tables were filled with delicate pastries, premium cuts of imported meat, and all kinds of seasonal seafood and fresh fruit.
Tyren grabbed Thalia a plate and, in that patient, gentlemanly way of his, began selecting all the best dishes for her. There was so much food that Thalia wanted to inhale everything she saw.
Suddenly, a man in a tailored suit walked over and slapped Tyren on the shoulder.
“Da…” he started, then paused when Tyren shot him a look. He quickly corrected himself. “Tyren! How have you been?”
His eyes then drifted to Thalia, and a spark of surprise lit in them. “And this must be the sister you never shut up about. Thalia?”
Thalia didn’t recognize the man and gave Tyren a puzzled look. Tyren explained, “This is Jaron Whitlocke, the friend I mentioned before.”
He was the one who got them the invitation.
Thalia extended her hand politely. “Hello. I’m Thalia.”
Jaron laughed brightly. “You really are beautiful. No wonder Tyren talks about you all the time. If I had such an outstanding sister, I’d spoil her to death, too.”
He took her hand and shook it. Ten seconds passed, and Jaron still didn’t let go.
Tyren cleared his throat. “You’re just in time. I need to talk to you.”
Only then did Jaron reluctantly let go of Thalia’s hand.
Tyr turned to Thalia. “I’ll be right back. Wait for me here.”
alia, the kitchen’s bringing out even better dishes later. Help yourself. If anything’s not to your liking…” Jaron didn’t get to finish. Tyren pulled him straight into the lounge across the hall.
Thalia couldn’t help laughing. Those two must be very good friends.
Just as Jaron said, more dishes began appearing from the kitchen. Thalia immediately spotted a slice of strawberry cake and made her way toward it.
