Chapter 28 Go Change

Everything suddenly made sense. That was why Thalia had been moody with Alden lately, acting cold and indifferent. It was because of this auction.

She had dragged Tyren along that night just to have her family’s support. She wanted to force Alden to send Kiera home, and then naturally take over the role as his date.

This woman was so calculating. It made him sick.

Kiera sighed guiltily. “Lia, if you’d told me you wanted to come, then I wouldn’t have come. You know that events like this only allow one date. Now, things are such a mess. Aldy is going to feel awful.”

Thalia let out a mocking laugh. She reached into her purse and pulled out an invitation, waving it in front of them. “You two have misunderstood. I have my own invitation.”

Alden snatched it right away and inspected it. It was a genuine Sotheby’s invite, and it was addressed to the Marquette family.

He chuckled dismissively. “With the state your family’s in right now, I doubt you could afford even the cheapest item here. Thalia, just go home before you embarrass yourself.”

“Yeah. Lia, the Marquette family is struggling. Everything costs money these days. Your father’s already running around begging people for help at his age. It hasn’t been easy for him,” Kiera chimed in with a sympathetic look. Then, she offered, ” If you see something you like, I can bid for it on your behalf.”

“No need.” Thalia took back the invitation. Having now lost her appetite, she turned to leave.

That was when Alden noticed Thalia’s red dress, and his expression turned icy. He grabbed her wrist. “How many times have I told you red doesn’t suit you? Why are you wearing it?”

“I’ll wear whatever color I want.” Thalia yanked her arm free, then looked at Kiera.

She used to wonder why Alden forbade her from wearing red. Now, she understood. It was because Kiera loved red, and he didn’t want her to outshine Kiera.

“Thalia, how long are you going to keep this up?” Alden snapped, clearly losing his patience. “I’m not in the mood to coddle you. Leave, now.”

A server walked by at that exact moment. Startled by Alden’s tone, he accidentally bumped into Thalia. He panicked and was about to apologize, but Thalia simply smiled and told him it was fine.

That smile caused Alden to lose his mind. Even though he didn’t like Thalia, he couldn’t deny that she was beautiful.

Thalia had a great figure. Standing at five–foot–six, in that red dress and heels, she looked even more striking. Her waist was incredibly slender, almost too delicate to hold, but her figure was proportionately balanced and curvy in all the right places.
