Chapter 29 Reveal Your Identity
In the lounge, Jaron was grilling Tyren. “Thalia is insanely gorgeous. No wonder you’re so crazy about her! Your mourning period barely ended before you rushed back to Yebaku City. And that night, you ditched all of us just for her!”
“Don’t even think about hitting on her.” Tyren gently swirled the glass of red wine in his hand, then flicked his gaze to Jaron’s hand and warned, “Do that again, and I’ll break your hand.”
Jaron immediately hid both his hands behind his back. “It was just a normal handshake! What are you jealous about?”
Just a normal handshake? Tyren had counted. It lasted a full 11 seconds.
Seeing the jealous look on Tyren’s face, Jaron dared not push his buttons. “Fine, fine. From now on, I’ll always keep a six- foot distance from her, okay? So, when are you planning to bring her home to meet the family?”
Tyren took a sip of wine. “She doesn’t know who I am yet.”
Jaron didn’t understand. “You came back to help Marquette Group get back on its feet. Wouldn’t revealing your identity make things easier? Besides, it’s not like we’re some shameful family. What’s the point of hiding?”
Tyren said nothing. Jaron was about to push further, but Tyren suddenly crushed the wine glass in his hand, shot to his feet, and stormed out of the lounge.
Jaron glanced at the mess on the floor, then toward the hallway. “It looks like it’s time for action. This is going to be fun to watch.”
He then pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Grandpa, I’ve just met your future granddaughter–in–law!”
Thalia never imagined Alden would go so far as to demand she change her outfit just to make Kiera happy.
She was about to walk away when Tyren suddenly appeared, stepping in front of her protectively. “Are you okay?”
Thalia shook her head. The coldness in her expression slowly melted away as she slipped her arm through Tyren’s.
Alden’s eyes narrowed at the sight of their linked arms. He frowned. “Tyren, you both should leave before you embarrass yourselves.”
Tyren’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Mr. Crestfall, are you certain the ones embarrassing themselves tonight will be us?”
Alden scoffed at his arrogance. “Sotheby’s auction items start as low as a million dollars and climb into hundreds of millions. The Marquettes can’t afford to play at this level.”
He shot Tyren a disdainful look and continued, “And you’re just their adopted son. What money could you possibly have to bid with?”
Alden didn’t believe for a second that Tyren had money. He knew Tyren’s background. He was convinced that all this–the luxury car and fake invitations–was arranged by Stanford to have Tyren come here and suck up to wealthy guests for
resources.
“Mr. Crestfall, I can afford everything you want to bid on tonight.”
“You’re full of it, Tyren!” Alden didn’t take Tyren seriously at all. “You can’t even afford to buy a broom here. You’re a disgrace to the Marquette family. And when Marquette Group comes crawling back with more problems, don’t expect me to lift a finger.”
Tyren tilted his head, completely unfazed. “Oh, I forgot to tell you. With me here, Marquette Group won’t be needing your help anymore, Mr. Crestfall.”
Then, he picked up Thalia’s plate and took the slice of strawberry cake she had been eyeing. “Let’s go over there to eat.”
