Melanie was completely baffled.
Was she being set up on a blind date with the head of Stellaris PharmaTech?
Speaking of the head of Stellaris PharmaTech, the individual was a total mystery to the public.
The public face of the company had always been Vice President Natalie Whitmore. The real president pulling the strings behind the scenes had never shown their face, let alone revealed their name.
As Mr. Vellor described the personal details of Stellaris PharmaTech's general manager, Preston quietly observed Melanie’s expression.
Melanie looked... thoroughly uninterested.
Preston’s brow furrowed.
When the meeting finally ended, Melanie immediately pulled out her phone.
It had vibrated several times during the meeting.
It was a text from Dominic:
[My mom wants us to come over for dinner tonight.]
[Just head straight there after your meeting!]
Tucking her phone away, Melanie was blocked at the door by a tall figure before she could even leave the conference room.
“Mr. Whitmore?”
Melanie’s eyes met Preston’s.
Perhaps it was because his presence was so intense and his expression so cold, but she felt as if his deep-set eyes were glaring at her.
Preston took out his own phone.
“Would you mind if I got your number?”
Compared to his self-introduction earlier, Preston’s tone had softened slightly.
Melanie couldn’t help but wonder if he had actually been nervous around her before.
“Sure!”
Melanie didn’t refuse.
It was always good to have more connections. Even if Preston was just a clerk, he was still an employee of the Luminaria Aesthetic Institute.
Besides, what was the harm in getting a handsome guy’s number?
After they exchanged numbers, Melanie thought Preston would step aside, but he didn't.
“Is there something else, Mr. Whitmore?”
“Do you have plans tonight?”
“Hmm?”
“I’d like to take you to dinner.”
Melanie was taken aback.
As soon as she walked in, she saw Camilla, Dominic, Evelyn, and Lila already at the table, having started their meal.
“Oh, Melanie’s here!”
Camilla’s face was covered in a fake smile when she saw Melanie.
“You must be tired from work. Go wash your hands and bring out that plate of sea bass from the kitchen. Dominic said it’s your favorite, so I made it specially for you.”
The entire Hale family was already eating, yet she, after a long day of work, was expected to serve the food.
In the four years of her marriage, this was a common occurrence.
She was also always the one to wash the dishes after every meal.
Her only comfort was that Dominic would praise her for being a good wife.
With her back to Dominic’s family, Melanie walked into the kitchen, the desire for revenge burning hotter in her eyes.
Sea bass was indeed her favorite food.
Dominic knew it and had mentioned it to his mother more than once.
However, in their four years of marriage, Camilla had never once made it for her.
Melanie had been wondering why Camilla would suddenly cook her favorite dish after she had taken a hundred million dollars from her secret savings.
But when she picked up the plate of fish, she instantly understood.
