The steamed sea bass was loaded with ginger.
From slices to shreds to minced bits, there was so much ginger you could barely see the fish.
Melanie didn’t eat ginger.
Never had.
She couldn’t even stand the slightest taste of it.
Dominic knew this.
A cold smirk touched Melanie’s lips.
So this was what she had been waiting for.
Melanie brought the sea bass to the table. One look and she almost thought she had stumbled into some kind of ginger-themed banquet.
There were five dishes on the table, and all five of them contained ginger.
Melanie also noticed that the after-dinner fruit her mother-in-law had prepared was pineapple—
which she was allergic to.
“Melanie, come on, sit down.”
Camilla, looking like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, waved her over.
However, there wasn't a single empty seat at the table.
Evelyn and Lila were seated on either side of Dominic.
“I’m not hungry. You guys go ahead and eat.”
Melanie turned to leave, but Evelyn called out to her.
“How can you not be hungry after working all day? You’re not trying to say you dislike Mom’s cooking, are you?”
The atmosphere in the dining room instantly shifted. Melanie smiled faintly.
“That's a heavy accusation, and one I can't accept. It’s not that I dislike Mom’s cooking; it’s that I’ve never eaten ginger in my life, and I’m allergic to pineapple. If you don’t believe me, ask your brother. It’s not like he doesn't know. Even if I sat down, I wouldn't be able to eat anything, so why take up space?”
Melanie delivered this speech with calm composure, shutting Evelyn down while also making Dominic feel a pang of guilt.
He knew his mother was still fuming about the hundred million dollars Melanie had taken.
A hundred million dollars!
