"Daphne isn't finished yet," Melanie pointed out.
Sebastian offered a knowing smile. "Exactly. That's why I suggested we go for a walk."
It clicked. Sebastian wanted to step away to give Sam and Daphne some alone time, rather than sitting there awkwardly acting as third wheels.
Melanie instinctively frowned, her silence speaking volumes. She knew Sam was interested in Daphne, and as a fan, Daphne clearly enjoyed his company. But... was she really supposed to abandon her friend with a guy she barely knew?
Seeing Melanie's heavy expression, Sebastian chuckled. "Ms. Morrell is a grown woman. You're her friend, not her guardian. Is there really a need to be this worried?"
Melanie shot him a death glare. "Daphne is my best friend, and she just got out of a terrible relationship. Isn't it normal for me to be protective when she's potentially starting a new one?"
Under the intensity of her predatory gaze, Sebastian opened his mouth to argue, but thought better of it. "I apologize, Ms. Royce. I overstepped."
"It's fine," Melanie accepted the apology with a blank face, though she was still slightly annoyed.
She simply wasn't the type to ditch her best friend with a strange man. Melanie had finished her meal ages ago, remaining at the table purely to keep Daphne company. Daphne, on the other hand, was still going strong. Ever since she started dating Everett, she rarely got to enjoy food this intensely flavored. Now that she had a blazing, delicious pot right in front of her, she couldn't get enough.
"Melanie, are you full?" Daphne noticed Melanie hadn't touched her silverware in a while.
