To an outsider, Melanie and Sebastian looked like two people lingering in that thrilling, ambiguous space right before a romance officially begins.
They looked incredible together—a stunning pair. Sebastian's gaze was constantly drawn to her. Yet, despite the utter seclusion of the park, they weren't even holding hands.
The reality was far less romantic. As they walked down the scenic avenue, their conversation consisted entirely of clinical trials, patient feedback on new targeted drugs, and data optimization. Discussing oncology metrics felt entirely out of place in such a secluded, moody atmosphere.
"Ms. Royce..." Sebastian stopped and tapped his temple. "I'm starting to suspect you have a supercomputer implanted in here."
"Excuse me?" Melanie raised an eyebrow.
Sebastian offered a charming smile. "You just recited an entire spreadsheet's worth of data without even glancing at a screen. If that's not a computer, I don't know what is."
Melanie couldn't help but laugh. "The human brain is vastly superior to any computer."
"Well... I guess my attempt at flattery totally missed the mark."
"You're my client, Director York. There's really no need to flatter me."
"Maybe I just genuinely wanted to compliment you."
"Next time, you can just tell me I'm brilliant and gorgeous," Melanie deadpanned.
Sebastian opened his mouth, realizing she had a point. If he wanted to praise her, there was no need to hide behind convoluted data metaphors. A woman as stunning and capable as Melanie was undoubtedly used to straightforward admiration.
