She Left, She Thrived, She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 131

Since Melanie was already here, Fiona figured she might as well have a drink first. It wouldn't interfere with the plan.

Melanie watched impassively as Fiona downed the glass of whiskey.

“I’ve had the first drink. Now, for the second one…”

Fiona once again picked up a glass and offered it to Melanie, only to be refused again.

“You should drink the second one too, Ms. Marcelline.”

“Why!”

Seeing that Fiona was getting annoyed, Melanie explained slowly and deliberately, “The first toast is for the occasion, Fiona. And the second? Well, it’s bad luck to stop at one—unless you’re looking to jinx our partnership. If the guest accepts the luck brought forth by the host, it’s considered rude. It brings a lifetime of misfortune.”

Melanie said it with such conviction that Fiona just grew impatient.

Muttering, “What a pain,” Fiona tilted her head back and drank the second glass as well.

After Fiona had been maneuvered into drinking two glasses, Melanie was certain—the whiskey prepared in the tower hadn't been drugged beforehand.

In other words, they were waiting for her to let her guard down or get drunk before making their move.

Melanie lowered her gaze slightly.

She wasn't naive enough to believe Fiona had invited her to a place like this just to bury the hatchet.

This environment was perfect for drugging someone.

What an old trick.

But if it worked, the consequences would be devastating.

As Melanie mulled this over, she saw Fiona turn to get a third glass. This time, her back completely blocked the whiskey tower from view.

A moment later, Fiona turned back around and held the third glass out to Melanie.

“This time… you can’t make me drink it again. I’ve had two in a row, and you haven’t had a single one! That’s no way to show you want to cooperate!”
