She Left, She Thrived, She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 134

Melanie wasn't even sure when she had fallen asleep.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Preston sitting on the sofa, arms crossed, his head tilted slightly against the backrest. She couldn't tell if he was asleep or just resting with his eyes closed, but he was completely still.

Melanie got out of bed, walked over to him, and waved her hand in front of his face.

No reaction.

She found herself studying his sleeping face. Preston's features were sharply defined, almost like a sculpture—refined and incredibly handsome. But even in sleep, his expression remained serious, even a little cold.

Melanie touched her chin and murmured softly, a flicker of recognition tugged at her mind—he was a face from a dream she couldn't quite place.

However, no matter how hard she wracked her brain, she couldn't recall where she might have seen him before. In fact, her memory held no record of any man this handsome. If it had, she surely would have remembered.

As she pondered, her body unconsciously leaned forward, getting closer and closer to Preston, wanting to get a better look at his features.

Suddenly, Preston's eyelids fluttered open.

Their eyes met. Preston froze. Melanie froze too.

It was only as they stared at each other that Melanie realized their noses were almost touching.

“Oh, sorry! I was just trying to see if you were asleep…” Melanie straightened up and took a few steps back.

She could have just asked him directly if they had met before, but the question sounded too much like a cheesy pickup line. In the end, she decided against it.

The results for all her tests were in. Preston went to pick them up while Melanie had breakfast in her room. The hospital had prepared it: oatmeal and a few delicate side dishes that looked easy on the stomach.
