She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 162

At the tennis club.

Gabriel was playing tennis.

After hearing the old pharmacist's report, he put down his racket and, while wiping away his sweat, called Preston.

Now it was his turn to report in.

“So that’s how it went, bro. You know when you give me a job, I always get it done perfectly.”

“Mhm, you’re a good little brother.”

Gabriel paused, then asked with a grin, “Can you say that again?”

“Your breathing is unsteady. I’m guessing you’re not studying Spanish, are you?”

Stellaris PharmaTech.

Working overtime, Preston called out Gabriel’s bluff. The line immediately went dead.

Preston sighed with a hint of resignation.

Though Gabriel was unreliable when it came to academics, he always handled the tasks assigned to him flawlessly.

Last night, Preston had asked Melanie specifically what kind of powder she was planning to give as a gift. He was worried that someone might try to make things difficult for her at the birthday party the next day, so he had Gabriel pick a suitable person from the guest list. If anything unexpected happened, the person he had arranged would be there to help her out.

And things had turned out just as he’d predicted.

Preston’s sharp brows furrowed slightly.

His white-gloved hands held a file.

It was a file on Adrian Mercer’s research studio.

Preston flipped through the pages, his eyes scanning the dense, dizzying data.

“A new anti-cancer drug…”

His brow slowly smoothed out. Looking at the cold data, his deep, captivating eyes began to shine with a brilliant light.

After several days of what appeared to be a tug-of-war with Adrian Mercer’s studio, Melanie felt the time was ripe.

The investment in Adrian Mercer’s studio was, from the start, a trap she had dug for Dominic.

For Melanie, three billion dollars in R&D funds was enough to develop the new anti-cancer drug she had promised Elias.

It was also enough to ensure that when they divorced, Dominic would be utterly ruined.

Normally, Melanie would just have to wait for Dominic to take the contract to Gregory the next day.

But before Dominic could even go to the head office, the project was suddenly put on hold.

“What happened?” Melanie asked Dominic directly in the conference room.

Previous meetings had just been the two of them.

This time, however, Evelyn was there.

When Melanie saw Dominic glance at Evelyn before answering her question, she knew Evelyn must have been scheming again.

“Well, Melanie… we’re still going to invest in the project, but… Evelyn mentioned that the girlfriend of a core member of Adrian Mercer's team seems to be an employee at a Stellaris PharmaTech subsidiary. She’s worried this might be a trap set for the Hale Health Center by Stellaris PharmaTech.”

“So, she suggested that before we sign the contract, we conduct a detailed background check on all members of Adrian Mercer’s studio. After all, it’s a three-billion-dollar investment. It doesn’t hurt to be cautious.”
