“This is a very thoughtful gift! Compared to those gifts you can buy anywhere, Ms. Royce’s is the most special and the most useful for Nathaniel.”
“That’s right! I never would have expected Ms. Royce to be so creative.”
“It seems we misunderstood Melanie earlier.”
The guests’ chatter instantly changed tune, and once again they were singing Melanie's praises.
“But Melanie, dear, the gift is wonderful, but next time try to present it a bit more professionally. It is a milestone birthday, after all,” an elder advised her kindly.
Melanie explained with calm dignity, “I felt that a simple handwritten note would be the most direct way to present the formula. As for the presentation, I wasn’t unmindful. The gift box I used is custom velvet. If it hadn’t been knocked over, the contents wouldn’t have looked so messy.”
At Melanie's reminder, the guests recalled that Lila had been the one to knock over the box. All eyes turned to the little girl.
Lila, being only four years old, felt immense pressure under their scrutinizing gazes and kept repeating, “I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t mean to…”
However, the more she insisted, the more suspicious she seemed.
Evelyn stood beside her, forcing an awkward smile.
Nathaniel, treating the items as if they were fragile treasures, carefully placed the paper and powder back into the red gift box. Then he stood up and walked over to Melanie.
“Well, I have to admit, you’ve impressed me this time. This is how it should be. You are, after all, the one who will take over the family business. It’s your duty to care about our company’s affairs.”
Though Nathaniel’s expression remained stern, his gaze on Melanie was clearly filled with relief and confidence.
Sabrina grew restless.
So many influential figures were present, including many of Nathaniel’s clients and partners.
And Nathaniel had just publicly announced that Melanie would be taking over the company?
Then… what about her Aria?
Evelyn’s grip on Lila’s hand tightened, not even noticing when the girl winced in pain.
After Melanie presented the formula, the smile never left Nathaniel’s face. He spent the rest of the evening taking Melanie around to mingle with the titans of the pharmaceutical world, introducing her to every single guest.
Melanie hadn’t actually expected her father to be so happy over a single formula.
She hadn't given the gift to curry favor with him.
She had simply thought it was a fitting present, and it was in an area where she excelled.
The celebration went on late into the night.
In the quiet of the late evening, the old pharmacist who had retired from Nathaniel's company years ago left the Crescent Ridge Estate and made a private phone call.
“Hello? Mr. Whitmore, I’ve done everything you asked. I said exactly what you told me to say. Nathaniel was very happy!”
