A black Maybach pulled over to the side of the road. Dominic got out first, then gallantly opened the door for Evelyn.
Evelyn naturally linked her arm with Dominic's. From an outsider's perspective, they looked more like a couple than siblings.
Normally, Evelyn would have been proud to attend such a high-end symposium.
But as they approached the entrance of the hall, the smile on her face suddenly froze.
"What is she doing here?"
It wasn't just Evelyn; Dominic saw her too—
At the VIP entrance, Melanie, dressed in professional attire, was being stopped by the staff.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, you can't enter without an invitation."
Although Evelyn and Dominic weren't very close to Melanie, they could still hear what the staff member was saying.
Evelyn couldn't help but smirk.
She couldn't believe Melanie was so reckless as to show up here without an invitation. Wasn't she just asking to be humiliated?
Dominic pursed his lips and was about to step forward when Evelyn grabbed him.
"What are you doing? Playing hero?"
"No…"
Dominic shook his head.
He just felt that it was unlikely for Melanie to be interested in the symposium. Her presence here most likely meant she had come specifically to find him.
Perhaps Evelyn's presence had made Melanie feel insecure.
Or perhaps Melanie wasn't adjusting to the new company and missed him.
Although he only had one invitation and could only bring one guest, he could at least help her out of this jam and save her from being too embarrassed in front of the staff.
"If you go over to help her, I'm leaving right now."
Evelyn issued her ultimatum.
Dominic looked troubled. After a moment of hesitation, he didn't move.
Over with Melanie, she simply took out her phone and sent a message.
Elias had told her to let him know when she arrived.
Evelyn dragged Dominic along, waiting to see Melanie make a fool of herself. Instead, she saw the staff member pick up a walkie-talkie, say something, and then respectfully escort Melanie inside.
"How did she get in?"
Dominic took the phone, and after listening to Jonas's report, his frown deepened.
He couldn't help but look at Melanie, a strange unease washing over him, a feeling that his wife was slipping from his control.
"Melanie, why did you come to this symposium? And how did you get in?"
After Dominic asked, he saw Melanie flash a wide grin.
"The staff thought I was pretty, so they let me in!"
Seeing that Dominic wanted to question Melanie further, Evelyn tugged on his arm.
"Dominic, we should get to our seats. The symposium is about to start… Unlike some people, our seats are in the VIP section, just behind the head table. It wouldn't look good if we're late."
On the surface, Evelyn was reminding Dominic, but in reality, she was boasting that her and Dominic's seats were much better than Melanie's.
She thought Melanie would be green with envy, but Melanie acted as if she hadn't heard a thing.
Melanie wasn't here for the symposium, so she couldn't care less about the seating.
Just as Dominic and Evelyn were about to leave, one of the event organizers rushed over to Melanie, bowed respectfully, and invited her:
"Ms. Royce, please, follow me to the head table."
