She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 217

Seeing that Dominic didn't move an inch and had no intention of chasing after Evelyn, Melanie asked curiously.

"No."

Dominic crossed his arms, his attitude resolute.

"She was the one being unreasonable first. Why should I go after her?"

After hearing Melanie's explanation just now, Dominic truly felt her analysis was incisive.

Then he thought about Evelyn.

Just because it was her old friend, she wanted to shove him into such a critical project without any regard for the consequences.

If it really did drag down the whole project as Melanie said, wouldn't that harm everyone in the company?

Dominic thought of the collapsed Hale Group.

The Hale Group had been forced into bankruptcy and liquidation back then, and in the end, it was all due to Evelyn's incompetence.

The more Dominic thought about it, the more he felt he couldn't fulfill his promise to Evelyn.

Once the Hale Health Center went public, they would probably have to rely on Melanie even more in the future.

Evelyn and Lila already had all his love; not divorcing wouldn't harm them.

But divorcing Melanie would be a huge blow to her.

And to his company.

Dominic felt as if he'd had an epiphany. He couldn't help but praise Melanie as he poured her some juice, "Melanie, I think you did the right thing. You have a great sense of the big picture."

Melanie took the juice from Dominic but didn't drink it.

Instead, she picked up the complimentary lemonade beside her.

In fact, those high-sounding reasons from before were all just things Melanie had made up on the spot.

There was no way she would let Evelyn's spy into Adrian Mercer's studio.

Especially since Riley was genuinely knowledgeable in pharmacology. If he discovered that the new anti-cancer drug wasn't being developed by Adrian Mercer's team at all, but by her in secret, it would be a disaster.

But she couldn't tell Dominic and Evelyn this reason, so she fabricated an excuse that Dominic would most easily accept.

"If Adrian Mercer loses to my old friend in this pharmacology knowledge competition, the entire industry will laugh at us. They'll think the Hale Group has no judgment and invested in a team that doesn't live up to its name. Even if the new anti-cancer drug is successfully developed, it will be hard to recover our reputation."

The conference room was filled with Evelyn's accusations.

Dominic had the same concerns.

He just didn't voice them as bluntly as Evelyn did.

"So… Evelyn, could you talk to your old friend…"

"I can't."

Evelyn flatly refused Dominic, her eyes fixed on Melanie.

"This is all trouble Melanie caused. Unless she has Adrian Mercer's studio offer my old friend double the salary and make a public apology, then… maybe he'll be magnanimous enough to forgive and forget."

As soon as Evelyn finished speaking, Melanie let out a sharp, cold laugh.

"What are you laughing at?!"

Facing Evelyn's question, Melanie shrugged nonchalantly.
