Melanie glanced at Lila.
It was the first time she had seen such a vicious expression on a four-year-old’s face.
Her intuition told her—
The one who had bullied the little girl, who had scribbled all over her white uniform shirt with markers, was none other than Lila.
Before they even got back to the car, Melanie heard Lila’s stomach growl.
“Are you hungry?” Melanie asked.
Lila first nodded, then shook her head forcefully.
“Did the kindergarten not serve lunch today?”
A long moment passed before Lila mumbled softly, “I don’t like the food at the kindergarten…”
After saying that, she looked up and shot Melanie a fierce glare.
Melanie was bewildered by the look.
“What did I do to you? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“It’s all your fault! Because of you, I can’t go to my old kindergarten. The food at my old kindergarten was delicious…”
Seeing Lila acting as if she'd suffered a great injustice, Melanie remembered that Lila had been expelled from Brightwood Premier Academy.
“Don’t you dare blame me. Your expulsion had nothing to do with me. It was because of your mother’s bad credit that the headmaster expelled you.”
After hearing Melanie’s words, Lila ducked her head, her face scrunching up in a silent sulk.
Just then, her stomach growled with hunger again.
“If you’re hungry, I can take you to get something to eat. What do you want?”
“Really?”
Lila looked at Melanie, her eyes wide with surprise.
“Of course.”
“Then… then I want to eat cake…” Lila said softly, her expression a mix of pitifulness and hopeful anticipation.
“Alright.”
Melanie didn’t give her a hard time and took Lila directly to a nearby buffet restaurant.
