“Dominic, she’s showing zero respect for my colleague. He’s definitely going to hold this against the Hale Health Center… What are we going to do? You have to control her!” Evelyn cried, shaking Dominic’s arm with a worried expression.
Dominic remained silent.
He had no idea what to think either.
He had no clue what Melanie was trying to accomplish by saying all this in front of everyone.
Originally, the guests had been full of anticipation for Project NovaGate. Many big names in the business world had sensed an opportunity and were eager to get involved.
But after hearing Melanie’s critique, they were all deeply disappointed, and the entire atmosphere of the hall shifted.
The allegro section of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 began. Even though Melanie stood nonchalantly by the piano, her fingers began to blur across the keys with astonishing speed and precision.
The crowd couldn’t help but let out gasps of genuine amazement.
If anyone else had played the piano like this, it would have seemed awkward and disrespectful to the instrument and the music.
But when Melanie did it, it was as if she were possessed by Cleopatra herself—
Regal, poised, confident, proud, and unconventional.
She wasn’t performing for the guests.
She was playing for herself, indulging in a moment of music.
This was a queen at the pinnacle of power, commanding the piano.
Her commanding, elegant presence was so overwhelming that it made one want to bow at her feet.
Then, Melanie spoke again.
Everyone held their breath, like subjects awaiting a queen’s command.
“Mr. Lennox, I’m not pointing these things out to belittle your project. On the contrary, a project of this importance deserves even more careful consideration, to ensure that every dollar invested is spent wisely.”
“It might seem like many details need to be reworked from scratch, but it’s like this Ninth Symphony. If you take it out of context—especially without the long prelude in the fourth movement that searches for light amidst chaos—it loses the soul-stirring sense of liberation and sublimity that Beethoven imbued it with, the feeling of finally arriving after enduring great hardship.”
Melanie’s words were suggestive, leaving the rest unsaid.
Her performance of the symphony was also left unfinished.
Having played what she wanted, Melanie withdrew her hands and calmly turned away from the black grand piano.
Among the guests, very few truly understood her meaning.
Dominic couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret that Melanie hadn’t finished the piece.
