She Left, She Thrived, She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 26

“Daddy—!”

Dominic froze.

He instinctively glanced at Melanie.

Melanie was also looking at Dominic.

She saw the color drain from his face in terror.

“It seems little Lila misses her daddy.”

Melanie’s tone was full of sympathy.

Seeing that Melanie didn’t seem to suspect anything, Dominic secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

“Lila, don’t say that. I’m your uncle.”

The next second, Lila, who had been wailing in Dominic’s arms, suddenly quieted down.

A moment later, she looked up, her small face streaked with tears.

“I’m sorry, Uncle. Lila just misses her daddy…”

As she spoke, her big, watery eyes welled up with aggrieved tears again.

Dominic’s heart ached for her, and he immediately scooped her up.

“Lila, where’s your mom?”

Evelyn should have been back long ago.

“Mommy… Mommy left…”

“Left?”

“Mommy said she doesn’t want me anymore…”

Lila couldn’t help but start crying again, her sobs making Dominic feel agitated and confused.

While trying to comfort Lila, he pulled out his phone to call Evelyn, but before he could dial, a call came in from Gavin Lockridge.

“Dominic, your sister is at the Velvet Orchid, throwing a drunken tantrum!”

Although Gavin’s voice sounded impatient, Melanie could tell that he didn’t want Dominic and Evelyn to have a falling out.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have made the call.

Melanie remembered overhearing a conversation between Gavin and Dominic when she was hospitalized after her car accident.

Gavin was also aware that Lila was Dominic and Evelyn’s illegitimate daughter.

Perhaps everyone in Dominic’s circle knew.

They were all helping him keep her in the dark.

Melanie’s heart grew cold, and her expression matched it.

“Okay, I’ll be right there.”

Dominic hung up and looked at Melanie with some difficulty.

“I’m sorry, Melanie, but I have to go to the Velvet Orchid to bring Evelyn home. Can you help me look after Lila?”
