Melanie caught herself stealing glances at him more than once, only to quickly look away the second she thought he might catch her.
Her lips still felt impossibly hot.
A lingering, electric tingle kept dancing across her mouth.
She had to fight the urge to reach up and touch them.
But she forced her hands to stay in her lap.
She turned her face toward the passenger window, physically stopping herself from sneaking another look.
He was just a guy with a nice face. That was it.
But the more she tried to convince herself, the more an undeniable itch grew in the pit of her stomach.
She rolled the window all the way down, letting the cool night wind whip her hair around and soothe her burning cheeks.
He looked like he was focused on the road, but his dark gaze flicked toward her more times than he could count.
Back at the hotel entrance, Aria stood with her hands on her hips, her face twisted in pure rage.
She had honestly thought showing him the picture of Melanie with the Birkin bag would completely ruin his opinion of her.
Instead, he had chased right after her.
“What kind of spell does that bitch have him under?”
she spat, grinding her teeth.
Suddenly, her phone started ringing. It was an unknown number.
She hesitated for a second before answering.
“Hello? Who is this?”
“Ms. Aria. It's Evelyn.”
Late into the night.
Back at Rosevale Heights.
Preston was still awake, on a video call with Gabriel.
The walls of the house were heavily soundproofed, so with his bedroom door closed, there was zero risk of Melanie overhearing him.
“Dude, did you get assaulted?”
Gabriel's jaw practically unhinged the moment he saw him on the screen.
In all the years he had known him, Preston had never once looked this disheveled while wearing a suit.
His tie was obviously yanked loose, and the missing buttons on his black dress shirt painted a wild picture of whatever had gone down.
Gabriel swallowed hard.
“Don't tell me Ms. Royce actually...”
He couldn't even finish the sentence.
Melanie just didn't seem like the type to rip a guy's clothes off!
“What does the newest Hermès bag look like?”
Gabriel blinked.
He pulled his phone away from his face, staring at the screen just to make sure he was actually talking to the right person.
It was undeniably Preston.
Since when did luxury handbags qualify as a major business deal?
He tilted his head, racking his brain.
“I think it's the crocodile leather one with the rose-gold hardware.”
He quickly pulled up an image and sent it over.
“That's the one. Why?”
The bag in the photo was identical to the one he had seen in Aria's picture. He frowned.
“Is there anything newer? More exclusive?”
“Not that I know of. Wait, are you buying a bag? For Ms. Royce?”
The crease between his brows deepened into a hard line.
He completely ignored the question, his voice dropping into a demanding, authoritative tone.
“Get in touch with the boutique director. I need to know if the quota for custom VIP orders has been finalized for the year.”
