She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 43

Dominic felt Nathaniel’s gaze fixed on him and immediately made a vow.

“Melanie, don’t worry. As soon as Lila finishes her pre-K program, I’ll have her and Evelyn’s residency registration moved out.”

Evelyn opened her mouth to protest, but before she could speak, Dominic gave her a light kick under the table.

Evelyn’s glare toward Dominic grew even more resentful and furious.

Lila, sensing the subtle tension between her parents, quietly ate her food, though she couldn’t help but roll her eyes and glare at Melanie from time to time.

In the end, of the five people at the table, Melanie was the one enjoying her meal the most.

Just then, Dominic’s phone rang.

Since Melanie was sitting close to him, she could faintly hear the voice coming from the phone. It was about the Hale Group.

Finally.

Melanie watched as Dominic finished the call and shot up from his seat.

“What’s wrong, honey? Is there a problem at the Hale Group?”

As soon as she spoke, Dominic, his face dark, glanced at Evelyn, his resentment unmistakable.

Melanie knew exactly what was happening but feigned surprise.

“Could it be… related to the Luminaria Aesthetic Institute project?”

“I’ve been managing the Luminaria Aesthetic Institute project perfectly. How could there be a problem?” Evelyn denied it instantly.

“Sorry, Dad, there’s an emergency at the company. I have to go.”

Without waiting for Nathaniel’s approval, Dominic turned and left.

“Hey, Dominic, you’re leaving? What about me?”

Evelyn shouted after him, but Dominic acted as if he hadn’t heard, not even glancing back.

With Dominic gone, there was no reason to continue the meal.

Nathaniel was about to have his assistant drive Evelyn and Lila home.

“No need to trouble him. I can give them a ride,” Melanie offered.

“Good. You can go home with them. That’ll keep you from running around.”

After speaking, Nathaniel reached out and stroked Lila’s head.

“Lila is a good girl. She wouldn’t want to see her aunt staying out every night, right?”

Lila blinked her big, watery eyes, nodded, and said to Melanie, “Auntie, please come home. You won’t disturb Lila.”

Her obedient and sensible demeanor was so endearing that Nathaniel’s stern expression from a moment ago softened.

And so, Evelyn and Lila left Helix Meridian Tower with Melanie.

“Oh, I’m so sorry. I just remembered I have something to do, so I can’t give you a ride after all. You two will have to manage on your own.”

As soon as they reached the roadside, Melanie suddenly said this to Evelyn and Lila.

Evelyn was dumbfounded.

“You! You did this on purpose, didn’t you?”

So, Melanie stood on the opposite side of the road from her residential complex, holding a sparkler to celebrate Dominic facing his company’s biggest crisis, all thanks to his mistress’s hard work.

As she waved the sparkler, she suddenly thought of her good landlord.

She sent a message to Preston, telling him she hadn’t cooked tonight.

[Preston: Where are you?]

[Melanie: Across the street from the complex, playing with sparklers.]

[Preston: You like fireworks?]

[Melanie: Today is a good day. I have to celebrate.]

Preston didn’t ask what good day it was or why she was celebrating. He simply replied with an “Okay.”

Cyranth, inside the Hillgills Convention Hall.

The Global Biosecurity Strategy Summit was underway, gathering a handful of the most influential figures from politics and business.

Preston, dressed in a black suit and white gloves, sat in the center seat, an anchor in the storm.

Just as everyone was waiting for the head of Stellaris PharmaTech to give his command, Preston picked up his phone and made a call to his assistant.

In the magnificent and silent conference hall, Preston’s deep, magnetic voice resonated.

“I want to set off fireworks.”
