If OCD was allowed to spiral out of control, it could make living a normal life entirely impossible.
As far as Everett was concerned, Preston seemed flawless on paper, but if he genuinely had severe OCD, he was absolutely unfit to spend the rest of his life with Melanie.
Everett fully admitted he had his own selfish motives.
He wanted to drive a wedge between Melanie and Preston so he could swoop in and take his place.
But at the same time, he truly cared for her and couldn't bear the thought of her suffering through another disastrous relationship.
Melanie quietly chewed on the crab Preston had shelled for her, glancing nervously between the two men.
The table fell dead silent.
And the quieter it got, the more terrifying the atmosphere became.
Her instincts screamed that Preston and Everett were practically seconds away from tearing each other apart.
Yet...
She couldn't figure out exactly why.
By the end of the lavish seafood feast, Melanie was the only one who left fully satisfied.
Neither Preston nor Everett had barely touched their food.
Naturally, Preston picked up the tab.
Since Everett's mental state had completely recovered, he couldn't stay at the rehabilitation center any longer.
He owned a house in Bresford, and Melanie had asked if he planned to move back.
Everett had refused. He preferred staying in a cheap motel in Averin while he hunted for a new place.
Melanie totally understood his choice.
If she remembered correctly, the house in Bresford was the one he had bought as a marital home for him and Evelyn.
Moving back there now would only drown him in agonizing memories.
It made perfect sense that he wanted a fresh start.
After Melanie and Preston dropped Everett off at his budget motel, they finally headed back to Rosevale Heights.
"By the way, Preston, Everett's question today was definitely out of line. I apologize on his behalf."
Preston's gaze instantly darkened, flashing with something ruthless.
"I don't want you having friends like him."
"Uh..."
Melanie's mouth twitched.
"I think you're misjudging him. He's actually a really good guy. Honestly, he's the only decent person Dominic ever hung out with— Ah!"
She let out a sharp gasp.
Preston had just bitten her ear.
It didn't actually hurt, but it startled the life out of her.
"What was that for?" she protested loudly.
"You're standing right in front of me, praising another man..."
Before she could process his words, Preston swept her off her feet, hoisting her effortlessly over his shoulder.
