“A smart man knows which way the wind is blowing. This is no time for petty jealousy. Since Mr. Whitmore from Stellaris PharmaTech thinks so highly of Melanie, you should take this opportunity to make good use of her connections…”
“That was… the whole point of the marriage between the Hale family and the Royce family in the first place.”
Gregory patted Dominic’s shoulder.
“I understand, Dad…”
Dominic nodded.
His father’s words had served as a reminder.
Melanie’s value was in her utility.
And she needed to be utilized to the fullest extent.
He had no feelings for her, anyway.
Thinking about it that way, Dominic felt much better.
***
At the Marquette Grand Hall.
After being shown to a seat of honor by Gabriel, Melanie juggled pleasantries while secretly texting Elias:
[Did you tell someone about my identity?]
Elias was usually swamped, but he always replied to Melanie’s texts instantly:
[Goddess, I would never dare!]
Melanie pursed her lips.
She did trust Elias.
But besides him, no one else knew she was the legendary pharmaceutical genius from the online forums—
Schrödinger’s Pill.
Melanie’s gaze fell on Gabriel.
Valerie’s warmth and friendliness were easy enough to explain.
Any talented fashion designer would naturally be interested in a model who could bring their creations to life so perfectly.
But why was Gabriel being so nice to her?
Melanie couldn’t figure it out.
“That Mr. Whitmore from Stellaris PharmaTech is quite the player. From pretty secretaries to celebrities, he changes girlfriends more often than he changes his clothes.”
Dominic had appeared at Melanie’s side at some point.
Melanie glanced at Dominic and asked with a smile, “Why are you telling me this? Do you think I’m going to have an affair?”
The word “affair” made a flicker of guilt cross Dominic’s face.
“Don’t worry, I would never cheat! People who have affairs always get what’s coming to them. They either go bankrupt, end up in jail, or get hacked to pieces… What goes around, comes around. Karma gets everyone in the end!”
As Melanie spoke, she saw Dominic’s face drain of all color. “Honey, you look awful! I trust you’d never betray me, so don’t be scared. Those cheaters get what they deserve. Wasn’t there a news story recently about some jerk and his mistress who fell from a building and were smashed to a pulp? The way they died…”
“Alright, alright, that’s enough.”
Dominic clutched his stomach.
If he listened to Melanie any longer, he was going to throw up everything he’d eaten that night.
“By the way…”
He looked at Melanie, his eyes holding a trace of disappointment and blame.
“Are you still not coming home tonight?”
