But reality had no "what ifs." Dominic made his choices and had to face the consequences.
Still, Gavin was his friend. No matter how badly Dominic messed up, they were still buddies. Seeing him reduced to a filthy, hopeless drunk, completely reliant on alcohol to numb the pain, left Gavin feeling terrible.
Even though the Hale family was ruined, Gavin didn't cut ties. Despite his own father's warnings to stay away, Gavin still went to The Velvet Orchid to make sure Dominic didn't drink himself to death and got home safe.
Last night, while walking back from the restroom, Gavin stumbled upon Everett sitting at the bar, drinking alone.
When a man goes to a club just to silently pound drinks, he's clearly hiding a world of pain.
The result was that both Dominic and Everett got completely wasted.
Even though Gavin wasn't nearly as close to Everett as he was to Dominic, he couldn't just leave him passed out at a bar. He hauled them both back to his place, which had plenty of guest rooms anyway.
Gavin gave Everett a brief rundown of the night but conveniently left out any mention of Dominic.
Everett thanked him profusely. But when he walked out of the bedroom into the living room, he froze.
Dominic was sitting on the couch, drinking a bowl of hangover soup.
Their eyes met, and Dominic nearly dropped the bowl.
"Everett... you have some fucking nerve showing your face to me!"
