"You can call me blind, but back then... I genuinely loved Evelyn. I was forced into a corner! Everything I did was for our love. It's just that she changed in the end..."
Before he could finish, Everett started clapping slowly and sarcastically.
"You really know how to make excuses for yourself." Everett's eyes dripped with disgust. "You are a selfish hypocrite, Dominic. You used Melanie, and you used Evelyn. They were just tools to make yourself look like a good guy. You never loved either of them. You only love yourself."
"Shut up!" Dominic pushed himself off the floor, wincing in pain.
Gavin saw Dominic's eyes turn bloodshot and tensed up, terrified they were going to start brawling again.
Dominic glared at Everett, gnashing his teeth. "Don't act like you know me, Everett. Even if I wronged Melanie and Evelyn, it was because of the circumstances. We just didn't meet at the right time. But you have to admit, I have a conscience! When I was bitten by a venomous snake, Evelyn sucked the poisoned blood out of my leg mouthful by mouthful. I would have died otherwise."
"Even if you say I didn't love her, my desire to repay her for saving my life was absolutely real!"
Seeing Dominic still desperately clinging to his loyal romantic persona made Everett shake his head in disgust.
Suddenly, Gavin, who was standing off to the side, muttered out loud, "If Evelyn sucked the poisoned blood out of your leg... didn't she get poisoned too?"
Gavin shrugged casually after asking the question. But when he looked up, he realized both Dominic and Everett were staring at him in dead silence.
Gavin's mouth twitched. "Why are you looking at me? Keep arguing! Or if you're done, go home!"
He had had enough. None of this drama had anything to do with him! He was just too nice for his own good.
The living room was eerily quiet. The explosive argument between the two men had completely vanished.
