Dominic sighed.
“I’m sorry, Evelyn. I know I’ve neglected you a bit lately, but Melanie has done incredible work for our company. I was just rewarding a high-performing employee, as her boss.”
Dominic’s explanation failed to move Evelyn.
The company, the company…
He always used the company as an excuse.
“Dominic, do you know how Melanie improved the serum formula? Do you really think she has that kind of ability? Or that her classmate does?”
Seeing the conviction in Evelyn’s tone, Dominic started to wonder.
“Evelyn, what do you know?”
Evelyn immediately leaned in and whispered in Dominic’s ear.
His expression shifted multiple times, from surprise to delight, and then to concern.
“But we just signed an exclusive distribution deal with Luminaria Aesthetic Institute. If we do what you’re suggesting, we’ll have to pay double the penalty for breaking the contract.”
“It’s only double. But Veloria Beauty… they’re offering five times that amount!”
The greed in Evelyn’s eyes was unmistakable.
Dominic wasn’t entirely unmoved.
Both Luminaria Aesthetic Institute and Veloria Beauty were companies that The Hale Group previously couldn’t even dream of approaching.
Now that both had come knocking, he found himself in a difficult position.
“If you ask me, this is all Melanie’s fault. Why was she in such a hurry to sign an exclusive deal with Luminaria? We have a miracle acne product that works at a cellular level. Once we develop the full product line, it’s going to be a gold mine…
“We should have held an open bidding process and signed an exclusive deal with whoever offered the highest price.”
Evelyn’s words weren’t entirely without merit. Dominic’s expression grew serious.
“But we’ve already signed the exclusive deal with Luminaria… I need to think about this…” Dominic said, waving a dismissive hand at Evelyn, his mind heavy with thought.
Evelyn opened her mouth, wanting to persuade him further, but she was afraid of pushing him too far.
Veloria Beauty had extended an olive branch, proposing a joint venture with The Hale Group to develop a new series and launch a limited co-branded line.
“Daddy’s not busy. With your mommy as my capable partner, business is booming.”
Dominic’s smile returned to his face.
Evelyn’s suggestion was risky and could damage their reputation.
But as the saying goes, fortune favors the bold.
Besides, the penalty from Luminaria was double, while Veloria’s offer was five times that amount.
The more Dominic thought about it, the more he felt Evelyn had discovered a golden opportunity, and his mood brightened considerably.
He took Evelyn and Lila to dinner at the Sterling Galleria, since it was the closest place.
During the meal, Evelyn discussed the proposal with him in greater detail, and the more Dominic heard, the more promising it sounded.
“Evelyn, you’re just so brilliant… I’m the luckiest man in the world to have you.”
Dominic’s sweet nothings made Evelyn blush.
