She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 71

“Miss, about this necklace…” the sales associate began tentatively.

The necklace was already boxed in exquisite packaging.

But the man who had promised to pay for it had already run off.

Generally, only the wealthy and influential dared to try on jewelry in a high-end store like this. Seeing that Melanie carried herself like someone important, the associate figured the sale might not be a total loss.

So, she maintained a respectful attitude.

Besides, she had already rung up the sale and packaged the item. If the customer were to back out now, they would be the one to feel awkward. More often than not, they would just bite the bullet and buy it.

“I’m sorry, I won’t be buying this necklace.”

As soon as Melanie said this, the sales associate’s face fell.

Melanie could understand. No one would be happy to see a sure thing slip through their fingers.

But she had no intention of paying for a necklace worth over a million dollars out of her own pocket.

And she certainly wasn't going to waste that much money just to avoid a little awkwardness.

She needed a lot of money to fund her new drug research, after all.

Melanie turned and left the jewelry department. Just as she was about to exit the mall, the same sales associate actually caught up to her.

Is she going to try and scam me?

The corner of Melanie’s mouth twitched.

This was a high-end mall, after all. She hadn’t damaged the jewelry or knocked any stones loose when she tried it on. The associate wouldn't risk causing a scene just for a small commission.

“Ms. Royce, please wait!”

The sales associate, out of breath, blocked Melanie’s path.

Melanie raised her eyes.

How did she know her name was Royce?

At that same moment, Dominic had driven to Sunnybrook Kindergarten.

The instant she saw Dominic, Lila, who had been a snotty, teary mess just a second before, broke into a smile.

“Uncle!”

She threw herself into Dominic’s arms, and he lifted her high into the air.

Looking at Lila’s pitiful expression, Dominic couldn’t bring himself to say no.

But they were at the kindergarten entrance, and he was afraid someone might overhear and get the wrong idea.

“Come on, let’s go back to the car.”

Dominic carried Lila back to his Maybach, then smiled at her. “Now you can call me Daddy.”

Lila nodded, glancing at Evelyn.

Evelyn’s expression had grown even uglier.

In Dominic's eyes, she was unpresentable. And so was her daughter.

Evelyn secretly gritted her teeth.

This was all that bitch Melanie’s fault!

“Daddy… can you comfort Mommy? She’s been crying a lot these past few days!”

Hearing Lila say this, Dominic immediately looked at Evelyn.

Her face was sullen, but her eyes grew redder and redder, welling up with hurt.
