Hayden personally escorted Hulda and Joanna further inside. Since the official anniversary ceremony hadn't started yet, the women of the social club were all gathered in a separate wing.
At a fork in the corridor, Hayden parted ways with them, heading toward the Axiom Pavilion to find Wade.
Guided by one of the academy's staff members, Joanna and Hulda made their way toward Valery's domain.
They finally arrived at the Luna Hall, a stunning two-story lounge blending modern elegance with traditional architecture.
The staff member brought them to the entrance. Before they even stepped inside, the rhythmic, polite laughter of upper-crust women drifted out to greet them.
One specific, refined chuckle sounded suspiciously familiar to Hulda.
The staff member leaned in and spoke softly into the room, "Professor Valery, guests have arrived."
With that, the employee gestured respectfully for Joanna and Hulda to enter.
Joanna took a deep breath, mentally bracing herself for battle, before affectionately linking arms with Hulda. "Alright, let's go."
Seeing the absolute determination on Joanna's face, as if she were marching straight into a warzone, Hulda couldn't help but smile.
Inside, Valery had been happily holding court among the early arrivals.
Just a second prior, Mrs. Gower had asked, "Where on earth is Mrs. Owen? You don't think she chickened out, do you?"
Upon hearing the announcement, Valery stood up gracefully. "Speak of the devil."
As the wife of the academy's founder and the organizer of today's gathering, Valery knew she had to play the perfect hostess, no matter how much she despised Joanna.
